I feel sorry for Burris
He seems like a good guy. But he's getting all this crap because of Blogo.

Does he even have a STAFF to work with?

He's going into the senate basically with just a briefcase.

1. I don't. A man of integrity doesn't take a job from somebody as toxic as Blago.
Burris let his ambition get ahead of his integrity. Poor showing.

4. Exactly. Plus, he has a mausoleum built for himself already.
That, while hysterical, is also unforgivable.

8. And he named BOTH of his children after himself. Who the hell does that?

14. He has a mausoleum built for himself already? So what?
What does that have to do with anything? Planning for your death is unforgivable?

19. No but its just shows his ego is supersized
He writes about himself on a tombstone and says he is a trailblazer...before he is dead! That seems really weird to me. Selecting a small plot in a graveyard with a little tombstone is normal but THAT just strikes me as strange.

9. Agreed. He did the wrong thing here.
BlagoSandwich is just using him.

2. Why?
He had to know that he was putting himself into the middle of a shitstorm by accepting the position.

Ambition gets the better of common sense sometimes.

6. That's what bothers me...
despite attempts to paint Burris as a "victim," he surely had to know (and one would hope, carefully considered) the pros and cons of accepting an appointment under these circumstance. And, yes, I fear that personal ambition is the driving force and little else is entering in. He'll be seated and may well make a believer of me as well. We shall see.

3. He doesn't seem like a good guy to me.
He seems like a slimeball. Maybe it's because he changed his tune about Blago afer being nominated. Or maybe because he accepted the nomination. Or maybe because of his behavior the last couple days. Or maybe because of the tombstone thing. Come to think of it, he sounds like a typical politician.

5. I know what you mean - he does seem alone. I don't blame him for...
...going after a job he wants. Nice that Jimmy Carter called him today!

If he had a shred of decency he would have refused the appointment.

10. He does seem like a good guy - not a naive good guy though.
He knew what he was getting into; what accepting the offer from Blago would entail. I don't feel sorry for him.

16. Just Curious - Has Burris Ever Discussed How The Conversation Went .....
between him and Blago? Did Blago ask him if he wanted the nod? Did Blago just say - I'm appointing you? Did Burris ask Blago any questions about this whole matter? Did Burris consult with anyone before he accepted? After he accepted - what meetings did he have with Blago to coordinate their statements? How did Bobby Rush get pulled into the fray? Did Blago ask Rush to get involved or did Burris ask Rush to get involved? (as you recall Rush was at the presser where Blago announced this appointment)

I'm just curious as to how this all came about. After all - Burris did run against Blago and they were opponents. So how - all of a sudden did they come to this agreement? I don't believe I've ever read anything about how this all transpired.

15. Not so great a guy
http://www.propublica.org/article/in-90s-burris-sought-death-penalty-for-innocent-man-1231

He is a guy who will screw whoever he needs to to get ahead.

The only needs he is gung-ho to go serve are his own.

17. I don't feel sorry for him. He's on a fast track to the Senate.
He should be seated, and he will be once the Dem's have sufficiently decried Blago. At least one other pol turned Blago down; and Burris could have. Instead he opted to accept the appointment. I don't blame him for that; but now he has to put up with the consequences of accepting an appointment from Blago.
