IMO, the GOP will demand either Holder or Panetta. Only one will be confirmed.

I think Panetta will get confirmed, but not Holder.

8. What you said. The repubs might try to cause a little controversy...in the end
it will be one or two new cycles and both will be confirmed.

12. You're doggone right!
Who gives two shits what they want. "Elections matter" ought to be our mantra. And asking why the hell the GOP doesn't want Obama's picks.

Obama can use his bully pulpit and we can make noise as we can in favor of the president getting the people he wants. I may not want each of his picks. But not getting his CIA Director or AG should not go over with the American people.

7. They aren't in a position to demand anything...
but they will probably try.

Contrast that with our side. When we were in the minority, our side's performance was pathetic.

13. Not so, in the Senate a single Senator can put a hold on any appointment. Also we don't have enough
votes to avoid a filbuster.

14. Sure they do
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 01:21 AM by BrentTaylor
Hatch, Sessions, and Grassley have already said they'll support Holder. And even if they hadn't said as much. Repukes can't keep it from going to a full floor vote.

And none of these appointments are so controversial for a filibuster. Thats not the fight Repukes are going to want to fight.

11. Disagree
The only way they'll stop any of these will be a new scandal... otherwise they'll be good to go.
