Bon Jovi will help clear Senator Hillary Clinton's debt

NEW YORK (Jan. 5) - The final note of Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign may very well be sung by Jon Bon Jovi.

The musician is performing at a fundraiser for the former presidential candidate as she tries to close out her campaign debt, which stood at $6.3 million as of last month.

The Jan. 15 performance at Manhattan's Town Hall is being billed as "a final evening in support of Hillary Clinton for President Debt Relief." Ticket prices range from $75 to $1,000.

The former first lady and New York senator has been working to pay down her debt to clear the way for confirmation as President-elect Barack Obama's secretary of state. Federal ethics rules prohibit Cabinet officials from actively soliciting campaign contributions.
Clinton wrote off $13.1 million in personal loans to the campaign.

27. I kinda have a crush on him. He's cute. Not so much a fan of his music, tho.
I mean, it's okay I guess. But not great. And I love great.

But the man? Wouldn't kick him out of... You get the drift.

too high.

Celebrities hook on hair products. "Yeah Jon, your hair looks real purdy." :puke:

8. oh for fuck's sake! like there aren't any real charities for him to whore out to?
Jesus, go save some polar bears or start some sustainable loans to nonindustrial impoverished villages...Clinton can swallow this debt easily if she had to. I fucking hate election money games!

9. actually it is illegal for her to do so
something a simple google search would have informed you of. She has done what she could (given the max and forgiven her own loans to the campaign) but she can't use personal funds to pay the debt. This isn't some new rule either. John Glenn was in the same bind after running in 1984.

11. Hard to believe she had no idea this would happen, so not much sympathy from me
I read a few articles since yeah, I'm not terribly informed on this, and it looks like she has some options. Seems like there is no time limit for repayment, so she can continue to pay off and hope for a reprieve, or "shutter her presidential campaign committee and transfer her remaining debt to her Senate campaign fund and continue to raise money to pay it down", or declare debt settlement.

In any case, my comment was about Bon Jovi putting his efforts to more worthy charities.

14. you mean, charitable work like this?
"Bon Jovi has worked on behalf of the Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Project Home, The Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation and other groups.

He has been named the first Founding Ambassador of the Habitat for Humanity Ambassador program as part of the international-nonprofit organization’s new advocacy outreach initiative. Bon Jovi has been raising awareness with Habitat for Humanity since 2005 when he provided the funds to build six homes in Philadelphia and built the homes alongside the homeowner families, as well as with members of his Philadelphia Soul Arena Football Team. The construction site also served as the video shoot location for his band’s single, "Who Says You Can’t Go Home". In 2006, Bon Jovi made a $1 million donation to build 28 Habitat homes in Louisiana in partnership with low-income families on the hurricane-stricken coast. Earlier this month, Bon Jovi announced a project that will rehabilitate a block of 15 homes in north Philadelphia. During an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005, the band donated $1 million to the Angel Network foundation."

He's a great citizen, a great philanthropist, and a great Democrat. Shame on you for dissing him.

12. no, just not terrible fond of campaign spending
and that goes for every candidate. It's a fucking shame, the amount of money poured into campaigns. Would be nice if anyone had the spine to put forth real campaign finance reform. Unfortunately, Obama's mega fund-raising, while instrumental in getting him elected, pretty much shut down any real discussion of public financing.

19. I agree with you on pubic financing.
I think that the money spent on campaigning is absolutely obscene. Obama alone raised over half a billion dollars just to get himself elected. The system is corrupt and benefits the candidate who manages to raise the largest amount of money.

Every viable candidate should get a set amount of money and everyone then would be on an even playing feel. As it is right now, one candidate can bombard the market with ads while another must struggle to get his/her message across. The whole thing smells rotten.

:-(

Bon Jovi? :eyes: No, in the 80s I preferred The Pixies and Sonic Youth to mindless ballads of Glam Rock Bands.

"... On a steel horse I ride, I'm wanted dead or alive." Yeah Jon, take your medication.

26. there was a rumor he'd run for governor of NJ
I saw this last year at this time. As far as I know it's just a rumor as he still has a very lucrative day job.

And celebrities have become governors before, look at CA (not that the Governator is doing a good job though).
