Total Friggin Nuttery - Dick Cheney's role next Tuesday with regard to Roland Burris
Edited on Fri Jan-02-09 11:35 PM by redstate_democrat

If Burris appears at the Capitol with his certification signed by Blagojevich and White, the officials said, Burris would be permitted on the Senate floor.

Vice President Dick Cheney, as president of the Senate, would then ask whether anyone objects to the senators-elect being duly sworn. A Democrat would object and propose that Burris' credentials be referred to the Rules Committee for an investigation. If no one objects to that motion, the credentials go to the panel for a period of perhaps 90 days.

In the meantime, Burris gets the privileges of an unsworn senator-elect. The Senate's unofficial customs and traditions leave unclear whether that status would come with a pay check, but Burris could be accorded a stipend for staff and given office space. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090103/ap_on_go_co/senate_burris

So, wait a minute. Dick Cheney will ask whether or not someone objects to Burris being seated and a DEMOCRAT will step forward and block him?

But, this same DEMOCRAT could not stand up to the corruption of Dick Cheney? Does anyone even realize the imagery this will project?

I will be watching to see which Democrat actually responds to Dick Cheney and objects to Burris. This will be truly something to behold

1. Well....duuuuuuuuuuuuuh. Who the fuck else would do it?
Until the Inauguration, Dick Cheney, like it or not is the "Go Fuck Yourself, Pat Leahy" President of the Senate.

That's how the game is played.

There's no imagery, here. Impeachment was always the option of the Congress (starts in the House, trial in the Senate). The Congress didn't choose to exercise that option.

4. Yes, I realize that Darth Vader is the prez of the senate
I didn't think that far ahead until I read the article. Then I just saw this picture in my mind of Dick Cheney standing there with that fucking SMIRK on his face as Democrats push this old man out on the street. They will opt to push an old man out on the street, but not remove a criminal from the White House. And I guess Congress will end on that fucking note - kicking a Dem to the curb while bowing to the criminals in the White House.

6. Yeah, it sucks. But Congress is complicit in Cheney's many "successes."
They let him roll on, and didn't stand up, once, to him. They played the Quid Pro Quo game, while keeping the old dumb base (on both sides) "outraged" and "riled."

I sometimes wonder if they all, left, right and center, don't go out on Thursday night and get shitfaced and laugh at us for giving a damn.
