119. Well why wouldn't they be all cheesy now?...
He gets to be President, and she finally has a reason to be proud of America. We give everything to a blatantly unqualified candidate and then applaud him for being happy about it? Geez.

legitimate winner both times, shows her/him claiming Obama's a citizen of Indonesia, etc.

30. Welcome to DU!
Yeah, hard to believe!

I still wander around the house saying to myself - "President-Elect OUR GUY!!!" I still can't believe we won! And even better that we won with THIS couple. Definitely a First Lady I will be proud of, as well as a President. I have not been able to say "my President" for eight long years now.

laughing and saying PRESIDENT CLINTON! over and over and laughing some more.

This time I feel a large measure of relief as well as happiness because of what we all have been thru these 8 years. It's been hell. Now we are delivered to a new land...

97. Let's see: the first Democrat to be re-elected since FDR
Took a budget deficit and left with a surplus. Under his administration, income increased along all income levels, nominated two Supreme Court justices that held the right tilting at bay..

But you had a sense of it... Such ingratitude. Do you have any idea what it takes to run for office, and to govern? No, of course not. So much easier to just sit and click whatever comes to your... whatever..

99. True enough.
But consider the alternative.

We would not only not have had a table, we wouldn't even have been invited into the room. Or the house. Or ANYWHERE on the property.

He hasn't made noises about doing everything I'd like to see, either, but hey, him - or john mcsame and that GAWDawful Tundra Tart? No question, no contest. Whatsoever. I think the best man DEFINITELY won in November, which all-in-all IS a win for us. And at least it means we're in the room, even if not at the table.

108. The table...
What bothers me is that in some ways it's not even his table. And what bothers me about that is that I wonder whose table it is.

What bothered me about Sarah Palin, aka Backwoods Barbie, was that she was sort of the final nail in the coffin for John McCain among moderate Republicans who had just recovered from Phil Gramm and my impression of Sarah Palin was that some wanted to ensure that John McCain lost.

I have always maintained that the Republicrats intended for Hillary Clinton to be president. And then along came Barack Obama.

I don't like what I see at the table. Regardless of whose table it is.

I see the Clintons at the table. If we had wanted Hillary Clinton at the table we would have voted for her to begin with.

I see the Bushes at the table. Robert Gates? He was head of the CIA under George HW Bush. We definitely voted the Bushes out of office and out of power. And yet there they are.

The Bushes. The Clintons. The dynasty.

in love, and so clearly best friends. With the possible exception of Jimmy and Rosalind, in my life these couples have always been the man out front with the wife in back either looking adoringly on in isolation, or in Bill and Hil's case, not so adoringly.

They're so insync in every picture -- like they're one person.

I also love #38. Michelle looks stunning. I remember that occassion -- it was a musical tribute for the NAACP Image Awards. I watched it on TV and saw the Obama's sitting in the front row. I remember thinking how gorgeous Barack Obama's wife was.

60. Thanks! Lovely photo array of an amazingly lovely and happy couple.
Our FIRST couple! Wow--gives me chills to say the words. For a long time, I've signed myself "Tired Old Cynic". Right now I'm enjoying the fact that I am no longer so tired and definitely a lot less cynical, thanks to our new President. Can't do anything about being old, but hey--two outa three ain't bad!

Blessings!

...they were more in love now than ever. An interviewer had asked about the campaign and if it had been hard on them - how they stayed in touch, etc. and that was part of her answer. They got even closer. :loveya:

And I LOVE this photo. It's my favorite of all of them in the OP:

109. That's the way they always look (like I've seen them all... :eyes:),
because they keep them around for so long, viewings and masses and all. But you'd think that if the Russians have managed to make Lenin look as if he might sit up any minute (I've seen him and he does...), since 1924, you'd think that they'd make even more of an effort with the pope.

I'm not trying to start another "pope war" here, LOL, was actually pro-pope on that one... But I couldn't help posting this very bizarre pic, though I hesitated a few times before I did. Since it's buried (excuse the term.. x() in such a very long thread, I didn't think too many would notice... :-)

BTW, welcome to DU, nolabear!!! :toast: It's great to have you with us! (And we aren't always like this, I swear...) :hi:

and then I scroll some more, and they're kissing over a corpse - one that hasn't even been embalmed, yikes!

86. Let's see now...
Michelle Obama is a beautiful, smart, ambitous, stylish, and tough woman. She has an obviously loving and stable marraige with an equally terrific man. They both grew up in tough situations, followed the rules, did the right things, got ahead because of their own grit and determination, and stood up for what they believe in. No "legacy admissions", no "gentlemen's "C"'s, no advantages by accident of being born into a wealthy, powerful (and evil) family.

Therefore, it only stands to reason that a whack-job like Coulter would slam her. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/03/ann-coulter-slams-michell_n_154947.html

This is gonna be fun...I can't wait to see all of those wing-nuts foaming at the mouth for the next 4, and hopefully 8, years. It's gonna be even more fun to see Coulter's "book" relegated to the $1.00 rack immediately.

88. I'm not going to read what Coulter has to say, because I haven't
for years--but I can tell you unequivocally that the Obamas are the kind of people Coulter should have aspired to be. And she could have. She had all of the opportunities to do so, yet she chose to make a lot of money the same way that Rush Limbaugh did: by promulgating fear, hatred, and ignorance in the name of media "entertainment." It's particularly ironic since Coulter and the Obamas are roughly the same age, several years younger than I am. We are all around the same age, so the moral and historical contrast is doubly stark to me. Wow.

Smiles and bear hugs are hallmarks of midwestern behavior. It got me into trouble more than once in different places in the U.S., and also with different cultures (translate: my ex mother-in-law, who was an elderly woman from Ireland).

I see this, and I recognize it and love it.
