Use your own interpretation of the word "trust."

12. Idiots.
Americans, as a group, have to be the biggest bunch of idiots on the planet. We are constantly acting against are own values and self interest merely because someone on TV tells us to. Most of the time I'm ashamed to be part of this world wrecking tribe of idiots.

16. I usually trust liberal Americans
Not so much foreign nationals and Republicans, especially Republicans that listen to RW talk radio.

RW Repubs are pretty self-explanatory here for why I would not trust them. Foreign nationals, well, the two individuals in my life that ripped me off the worst were both foreign nationals. One Swedish, the other Canadian. I have done business with only three foreign nationals in my life - the other was Columbian - so I don't like the odds there.

22. I answered rarely...
...but only because I assume the question to mean something like "trust... to act in the best interests of either me or others in general" or "trust... to do the right thing".

While I may not have the age under my belt that others here have, one thing that has become very obvious to me is that people generally act in their own best interests and rarely anyone else's unless acting in the best interest of another somehow benefits them as well. Most of the time, where "trust" becomes paramount and when we talk about it most in the sense of betrayal, is when you require a person to act in a manner which is not directly in their best interests, but rather yours or someone else's where acting in their own might cause someone else discomfort, harm, or other negative outcome.

This may seem cynical and harsh. But what do you expect? I live among humans.

30. Much less every day
I trust individuals, never groups. And I trust far fewer individuals now than I did a year ago. I'll never ever extend any form of 'benefit of the doubt' to any politician again. If they want my vote, they can stand beside me and ask for it, they can stand up for me and earn it. Half baked luke warm support will never get a vote from me again. Ever.

Trust? In what? I trust they will lie to my face, take my money and then slander my family to please some preacher. Is that the sort of trust you mean?

38. I want too trust my fellow americans
I would say when something very bad happens in the country we all seem to come to together to do the right thing. That has always been the american way. I know living among military families we always look out for each other. I believe american people are basically a good people.

and promote another brainless one like Palin, what's to trust. Compared to most of the world, a majority of Americans devalue education and are satisfied with money and glamor; substance and intelligence and culture just aren't their things. I do not value or trust such attitudes. Americans in general are nice, but they are nonetheless small-minded and narrow-minded.

40. After the 2008 election, yes
And I was cynical to the last.

My trust in the American people was at an alltime low in 2004. Improved in 2006. In 2008, they finally justified themselves.
