I submitted this question about Warren to Change.gov - Only those with most votes will be answered
Edited on Mon Dec-29-08 11:09 PM by 1776Forever
Here is the question(s) I asked - (You only had a very small number of words that you could use):

"Is treatment being received by GLBT citizens in Africa from protege's of Warren acceptable to you, and do you believe that it is OK for Warren's African church protege's to tell abused women that they should "try harder to please their husbands"?"

Wish I had been given more room to give the references regarding these issues. I wonder if and when we will ever find out what the answer is to these questions. I truly wish someone in the MSM would ask these sometime. I wouldn't be surprised if President-elect Obama didn't even know about these atrocities! I would also like to see a documentary on the Rick Warren African protege's and the influence peddling they are doing against abused women and GLBT community there. Anyone out there have the money or backing to do this?

1. Look, although I strongly disagree with the viewpoint that women exist to serve men
we can disagree without being disagreeable.

Try being more tolerant.

4. Are you being sarcastic - check this article out.........
Untold Consequences: Rick Warren's AIDS Activism
Kathryn Joyce on December 19, 2008 -

http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2008/12/19/untold-consequences-rick-warrens-aids-activism

(snip)

How that flawed policy plays out can be disastrous. As journalist Michelle Goldberg noted at Religion Dispatches, one of Warren's protégés in Uganda, the rabidly anti-gay pastor Martin Ssempa, has interpreted Warren's faith-driven solutions to the HIV/AIDS epidemic by burning condoms at universities and offering faith-healing to disease-stricken congregants. Other PEPFAR grantees, as Jacobson's colleagues in the global AIDS movement have witnessed, use their funds to promote fundamentalist interpretations of marital roles, advising women that if their husbands beat them, they should try harder to please them.

5. Of course I left out this.
:sarcasm:

It's a shame that the sentiment I originally expressed would actually fit right in now on DU.

This actually makes me cry and I am an old straight woman - I try to walk in the GLBT person (moccasins) shoes but I know it makes them feel much worse. Sad.......

12. no, he prefers to be the force of status quo that doesn't want the topic of Warren to be researched
which of course, goes against the great quote of John Edwards in his sig line, though.

17. I'm unfortunately getting used to it - but thank you for being my knight in this case......
It is true as you said from his sig line:

"Any time you speak out powerfully for change, the forces of status quo attack." -John Edwards

8. No, it's not time to move on and I for one appreciate the research
A member of my own FAMILY was trying to tell me what a great guy Rick Warren was for doing AIDS treatment. Well guess what? He's also responsible for making sure AIDS funding was tied to abstinence-only education and that it wouldn't go for birth control. He gets money for his ministry - OUR money - for treating the symptoms of AIDS, but he's clearly not interested in real prevention. Read the second article. He is a charlatan, and his pick is a clear indication that we're not going to get rid of these diastrous faith-based initiatives anytime soon, which totally pisses me off.

Besides, anyone who's that vocally anti homosexual is almost certainly a closeted gay. I live for the day he's exposed.

This is a lot more useful than other posts that don't detail that Rick Warren is not a very nice person.
