2008 Presidential Election Facts

<skip>

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 20; Republicans: 30

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000; Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million; Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2; Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in rented or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

1. What about farm subsidies, "Professor" Olsen?
Edited on Wed Dec-24-08 11:06 AM by Richardo
That's a form of government welfare.

2. Until you realize that farm subsidies and grazing on federal land
are forms of "welfare". Then it's a draw.

12. please ... the poor guy has to oversimplify his message or else his targets go
"Wha?"

There's only black (blue) and white (red) in his world ... quite a lot of the state is varying shades of purple ...

and he tends to ignore (because it really screws up his message, a not-so-uncommon occurrence when reality invades a Repuke talking point) the fact that, if you eliminate the "govt.-owned properties", then the square mileage won by Repukes really goes down ...

and he subtly makes it look like people in the blue-won areas ONLY exist as leeches of welfare ...

The real numbers that are important:

Obama: 364 electoral
McCain: 162 electoral

16. Those square miles of land really helped. More wilderness for the GOP
to wander in aimlessly.

Other than that, this map is a freakin' joke.

Can we shut up and stop using the South as the scapegoat for every Republican and/or racist stereotype in the country now?

22. They've been trying this shit since at least 2000
And the stats they're dealing with are substantially less impressive this time around. To paraphrase something I heard a few years back, the best argument against this junk is simple: "Rocks and coyotes don't vote."

24. No, that looks about right. Blue where people live & think, Red where people only think they think
And vast tracts of American, over-the-horizon landscape surveyed with the line-shot blood of a Winchester rifle where cattle contribute to global warming via their flatulence...like their Republican owners

27. That's pretty fucking moronic, since it's the CITIES that produce money.
Here in New York State, 50% of our fucking budget comes from one place. It's not the upstate farms, it's WALL STREET.

Any desperate, asinine spin to pretend like they didn't REALLY lose by 200 electoral votes.

The rich get one vote each, too.
