My message re Obama and Warren
As you are be aware, Obama has chosen Rick Warren, the pastor of Saddleback Church and a strong proponent of Prop 8, to give the inaugural invocation. I cannot think of a better way to let gays and lesbians know we’re not really welcome as part of the celebration. I have written to protest at the Obama transition site by filling out the “Share Your Vision” form: http://change.gov/page/s/yourvision. Feel free to use the below text, if you want to write, too.

I envision an America where all citizens have equal rights. That President-elect Obama has chosen Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, a strong proponent of California's Proposition 8, to give the inaugural invocation sends a message to gay and lesbian Americans that is no different than that sent by political speech-making from the site of Bob Jones University. I implore President-elect Obama and his team to reconsider this awful choice.

1. Ears of tin
I hope that every member of DU expresses a view to Obama on this.

I always knew he was wishy washy on gay rights. I chose to let that be. What's new about that? But this is an ACTIVE step toward allowing bigotry. Why should anyone be quiet for that?

This is the INAUGURATION for crissakes - the time of symbolism of hope for the future.
I don't care if Obama and Warren eat breakfast together, consult, talk have sex but not this.

I hope that every member of DU lets Obama know that THIS was a misstep. How come his ears on gays are made of tin?

That shows an appalling lack of imagination.

3. You think something more extreme
would have sent a better message?

4. I think he could have agreed with Warren.
I think that Obama emphatically making it clear that he doesn't agree with Warren makes your whole argument look really, really silly.

5. Actions speak louder than words
giving Warren a prominent spot in his inauguration ceremony makes it clear Obama doesn't find Warren's bigotry all that repugnant.

7. I'm not assuming anything
It is quite clear that Obama says one thing and does another.

8. You're assuming that by inviting him it means Obama agrees with him.
You're assuming guilt by association.

9. I don't have a problem with Obama "associating" with Warren

Not every "associate" is invited to give the invocation at the inauguration.

There is a difference there, and I'll admit I was slow to "get it".

10. Why else would he invite a hate monger like Warren?
Why share one of the biggest days of his life with a bigot and give that bigot an international pulpit? Sorry, if Obama found Warren's opinions about Gays, women and Jews offensive he would not have asked him to participate. Warren has also called for the assassination of Ahmadinejad - you have to wonder what kind of message Obama thinks he's sending to the world with this pick.
