AP: Both Candidates "Flip-Flop"
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 09:15 AM by Skinner
WASHINGTON - While working relentlessly to portray Democratic Sen. John Kerry as a "flip-flopper," President Bush has his own history of changing his position, from reversals on steel tariffs and "nation-building" to reasons for invading Iraq.

Most recently, Bush did an about-face on whether the proposed new director of national intelligence should have full budget-making powers as the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission recommended. Bush at first indicated no, then last week said yes.

_In 2000, Bush argued against new military entanglements and nation building. He's done both in Iraq.

_He opposed a Homeland Security Department, then embraced it.

The very first one appears to be a paraphrase and not a direct quote, apologies for that.

8. No problem
We'd love to have anyone stop by, not just for the political discussions, but also for the main purpose of the site (asking and answering questions). That goes double for any rational conservatives out there (insert your own punchline... but seriously, we seem to have scared most of the Bush supporters off over the last few months).

3. There was an AP article that was pretty much the same thing
as this in my local paper (Columbus Dispatch) today. The only difference is, that it said GOP ignores Bush flip-flops in pinning label on Kerry. I was glad to see it in the paper, though.

6. This is from AP? Kerry should pounce on it and hammer Bush
Why kerrys campaign is not hammering away relentlessly on Bushes flip flops is beyond me. The "Turn the other cheek" tack has failed miserabally.

7. The ONLY flip-flop I've heard from Kerry ...
... was his attempt to conceal that he owns 5 SUVs.

The rest have been poor explanations for why he would vote for differently for different versions of a bill.

I seriously think we need House/Senate rules stipulating that a vote for an amendment to a bill constitutes a vote for the final bill if such amendment succeeded with exclusion to any more amendments. That way, it would be easier for legislators to state their records.

John Kerry could clearly say he voted for funding the troops but voted AGAINST borrowing money to do it. He wanted to repeal his own upper-bracket tax cut in order to pay for the spending.
