Gov Paterson Likely Will Name Caroline Kennedy to Replace Hillary Clinton as NY Senator
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 12:46 PM by Roberto1223
It is almost official. Gov. Paterson has discussed the NY State nomination with Majority Leader Harry Reid. It seems that the pressure to name CK as the new Senator is building steam as Hillary Clinton all but endorsed her by asking her supporters not to block her nomination, Bloomberg, Reid, likely Obama and major political leaders from the Democratic in New York and Washington. And today Caroline Kennedy expressed in Upstate New York that she would be "honored to replace Senator Clinton". So, Paterson is looking at the 2010 ticket when he runs for re-election and a ticket including Paterson-Kennedy is quite powerful in NY state and the fudraisers will drop tons of money for the Dem ticket if it includes Caroline.

5. I hope she's got a map of upstate. She's never been there!
Good thing all the major cities are in a straight line, which Rochester a bit out of the way.

9. Hillary really did well upstate.
She did her homework and got to know the issues that effected upstate NY.

Caroline can learn from Hillary.

14. Utica, the Emerald of the Mohawk River Valley. Butt of jokes on "The Simpsons."
The NYT this morning makes fun of Utica on the op-ed page.

Oh, to be in Caffe Caruso on Bleecker Street right NOW.

18. Apparently Dennis Miller did a joke about Utica at a show in Buffalo
He was playing a drunk Buffalo that just woke up with another city next to him in bed. He thinks to himself, Oh, no, not Rochester again! Then he looks over and screams, Oh my god I must have been drunk - it's Utica!

17. I spent a lot of time in Binghamton as a kid ... visiting relatives.
Downtown is dead and sad. Everything's moved out to Vestal. And the recent flooding there didn't help any!

Yes, please, whoever the Senator is ... go to Binghamton ... they need help.

19. I will happily vote against her in any primary she runs in, and against Paterson.
This is absolutely ridiculous. If her last name were Smith no one would give her a second thought.

30. For appointing Kennedy, if he does. I think a current NY elected official should be appointed.
Kennedy is under consideration only because of her name, and I don't want to be represented by a Senator who got the office because of who her father was.

32. So, then you would disqualify non-elected officials to Obama's cabinet?
such as Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Tim Geithner, Gen. James Jones, Gen. Eric Shinseki, Shaun Donovan, Lisa Jackson, Steven Chu, all non-elected.

24. if she wasn't appointed and challenged the appointee in the primary would you vote against her?

Just trying to figure out if your vote against her in a primary is based on her getting appointed or on your opposition to her being a senator.

26. Being appointed. I doubt I'd vote for her if she ran, either.
I just don't see the compelling qualifications in her case. It's her name that's getting her a long look, nothing else.

27. As soon as Reid endorsed, Obama apparently wants her to get it, and then Hillary
told her folks to back off criticizing Caroline, you knew Paterson was going to pick her. And she also got the backing of a popular upstate congresswoman.

Caroline is going to get it.
