JFK.......not the most "qualified" man to be President......indeed
Very UN qualified...........how many years in the US Senate? How many years after attaining a law degree?

How many original bills in the Senate did he author, launch, and commandeer to law?

Google is our friend. Did JFK and LBJ make our life different from 1959-1969?

LBJ.....so many years as a Senator..........so much "experience"...........look where it left us in 1969...........Nixon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's talk about Obama's and Caroline K's "experience"................

Oh wait, some people think some representative or mayor from some unknown area should be Senator.......
ok.........who?

1. Oh wait.........this sounds like a bash of a Dem........maybe this will be.........
deleted.........because it's negative toward JFK.

Oh wait, relevance to today? No way...........a President who didn't even do a full term in the Senate? When did that happen before?

History! what a bummer.

3. Do people not understand the concept of elections
As long as the person meets the constitutional requirements - the people make whatever decision they want.

But when the people are not making the decision, then the people expect appointments to be based on merit, not "pay to play", not quid pro quo, not name recognition.

4. Elections happen when they are authorized by law
Why did this question only come up with Hillary's seat being vacated, and Kennedy/Obmaa supporter had to remind us of this?

So ........only Kennedy detractors object.....some of them Republican, some other flavors......

Your point?

5. You don't win arguments by bashing our president elect and JFK
Can you come up with a new strategy?

9. no, they couldn't have been. this is just a poor comparison.
as sandsea pointed out, elections are not the same as appointments.

10. Actually, LBJ was far more succesfull than Kennedy.
Johnson got things done, including many of the things people like to associate with Kennedy. But I don't think that has anything to do with Caroline.

The idea that she deserves the seat because of nostalgia and the family she was born into is a shamefully excessive display of white privilege. If Caroline wants to advance her family legacy on civil rights then she should step aside and recommend the appointment of a black Senator who has more qualifications than she does.

14. Agreed -- LBJ's work is often "given" to Kennedy
LBJ is the man who did right by Civil Rights, not JFK. The Texas rancher who was sexist and racist is the one who did it. Plus many other things.

I've never gotten the Camelot "mystique," and I'm old enough to have grown up with it. It's very weird to me. JFK was not a nice guy nor a particularly good President, and his selfishness and bad judgment quite honestly harmed the country (you don't sleep around with the mistresses of powerful men gunning for you). Many legit people also think he was more the pResident than President.

I DO like Caroline alot, allow I'd prefer for her to be elected rather than appointed, but I don't make the rules in New York.

11. I was kind of intimidated by all the elipses in your post.
As to which world leaders or community leaders will be effective, no one ever has the crystal ball.

Lincoln was dismissed as a provincial hilljack. Turns out, he bore one of the most potent intellects of his age. Not a bad administrator, either, despite having zippo experience at it. Plus, he took on a pretty tough assignment.

Alexander was 19 or 20 when Phillip II was murdered. No one in Athens thought a 19-year old Macedonian barbarian punk would amount to much. They were mistaken.

If Gov. Paterson appoints the daughter of a president to a U.S. Senate seat, she should be afforded the opportunity to demonstrate her ability to serve.

15. I don't think Ozma is angry over the idea of Caroline's appointment
He's just got an unconventional way of expressing his support for her.
