Our side needs a Drudge
The left blogosphere doesn't have the direct connection to the mainstream media that Drudge has.

If we had that - we could move stories so much quicker.

1. The mainstream media won't let us have a version of Drudge
We need to creat our own media.

3. We need a lying rumor-monger with a plugin to the corrupt media?
I'm seeing this theme of borrwing from the Republican playbook a lot recently, and forgive me if I'm not too keen on pilfering the right wing's tactics--the reason so many of them are effective is because they have zero scruples and are the darlings of the elite. If we have to become them to beat them, what have we gained?

4. It doesn't have to be lies
Just a well-traficked site that injects talking points directly into the media.

5. Agreed 100%
Drudge is successful because he has sources inside various news outlets and is able to run with semi-factual gossip. Often, Drudge will beat the mainstream media to a major story. He's clearly Conservative, but he pretends to be objective (like Fox), and this makes him dangerous.

It is absurd that the Left hasn't come up with something similar, as the overhead for such a site isn't that high relative to its effectiveness as a media tool. Buzzflash tries to be somewhat Drudgelike, but it's too blatantly partisan. You need SUBTLETY. I really hope someone gets on top of this.

9. Why don't we just become exactly like the Republicans
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 03:33 PM by jpgray
That would save us the trouble. In all seriousness, I'd say our side needs original ideas that build on our own values and strength--your idea assumes the patronage of the elite and the acceptance of corporate America. Our power comes from the less fortunate, and we should focus our organizational efforts around them.

12. Isn't that the website that claimed credit for the story that Walt Starr..
uncovered?

That was despicable enough for me not to click on the link in your post.

14. here is the quote from that article Rawstory ran

Walt Starr, who did the original research, speculates that Bush was wearing the ribbon because many members of his unit (who had been in the unit since 1966) would have been wearing the ribbon, and he probably thought he was supposed to be wearing it.

17. Or maybe we
could all use this site for that purpose (and more), if we didn't keep attacking each other and our candidate... and if we got rid of all the trolls.

(I am making no inference here, if I suspected you, it would be clear.)

19. you have a point about using DU but,
the fact is like it or not (and I hate it) drudgie reaches a hell of a lot more folks then we do. I sure as hell do my part though to get the word out on DU. But, untill we have a real media we will not get the exposure that sludge does.

22. And, again, I didn't mean to imply anything.
But some folks here are quick to misinterpret... and we do have a problem with trolls, some of them rather clever ones that I have had a hard time getting tombstoned.

24. I really didn't think that you would misinterpret.
After all I did check out some of your posts.

But sometimes, perhaps, I also address other readers (all two of them!). And I am, to some extent, trying to be careful.

Generally, I am pleased with many of the new posters, and more than once I have rushed to the defense of newbies.

But I am also quick (these days) to try to tombstone members, when their treachery is clear.

;) Best!

Listen, this guy is literally fed lies and half truths from the white house. They know he is lower then a snakes belly and will print literally anything! Why the fuck would anyone want us to strive to be more like these vile corrupt fascist criminals? Enough with Sludge links, quotes all of it!:wtf:

18. No. Keep it grass roots. Much more alluring and "real". Lots of little
units running on love and small donations is better than anything that resembles BIG MEDIA.

Look at how cool indie music scene was before it got co-opted by the mainstream music biz and their (gag) street marketing teams. They were able to "fake" indie stuff to unknowing kids and it all went downhill from there. Indie used to be weird dudes/gals at college radio stations getting excited about random stuff....then it was coopted by corporate greed machine and became watered down trite and cliche.
