RIP Meet the Press. David Gregory is going to be a ratings disaster
Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 10:56 AM by rhombus
Watched the show this morning. All I have to say -- MTP is going to lose its number one spot for the very first time to either Face the Nation or This Week. It won't take long at all.

Gregory has NO presence whatsoever. A really misguided host flop.

1. I didn't like Tim Russert either
His "gotcha" questions and disdain for top Democrats disgusted me.

5. Russert at least appeared intelligent
Not so for Gregory. You get the sense that he's preening so hard to have some 'gravitas' but to no avail.

17. He did?
He came off as a "everyone at the cocktail party says..." typical DC pundit type to me

24. No he didn't.
Russert was a joke and a shill.

He is a perfectly coiffed, empty-headed shill.

and she is not dumb, like Gregory.

6. Maybe after a few bad ratings they'll play musical hosts...
I just do not like weasel Gregory. Don't like him on 1600 and think he comes across as a major a-hole.

They should play musical hosts every Sunday. Maybe even have a poll and let the audience decide who'd they prefer.

9. He is what he is
Don't expect improvement from a presentation standpoint. If he sets a Conservative tone week in and week out, then he is doing his job in GE's eyes.

so I am glad I can check in here, notice that Romney is the big guest, and avoid the show altogether.

11. Such a G.E. choice -- like Jeff Zucker being allowed to remain for years...
as head of NBC as it continues to trash in the ratings. A completely uninspired choice -- a choice, it's my guess, made because Gregory is good at playing the corporate game at G.E. and fits into that culture well.

Also, "Face The Nation" has no chance of competing with MTP.

19. I thought Mittens made some excellent points
especially when he pointed out why the Japanese automakers are able to sell their product for $2000 less per product than the Big 3 automakers. Without actually saying it, Mitt implied that the autoworkers of the Big 3 are making just a little too much money as compared to the autoworkers in this country who work for the Japanese builders.

22. That was countered very well by pointing out that the
difference was in large measure due to US companies having to pay the health insurance costs and the fact that Japan subsidizes their companies. What was less clear was that the comparison between the Japanese cars built in the US and the big three cars is mostly the legacy costs - paying the healthcare of retired workers.

if everyone watches, than it goes against showing a rating plunge because they chose the wrong person to fill the spot.

That's how they get their rankings. You and I can't control anything because they have no idea what we're watching.

25. People won't long tolerate Grepory's corporate republicon spin
Dude has no gravitas, no cred...just another overpaid republicon shill, which the corporate media keeps serving up the public as if it was somehow 'normal.'

Ptoooey on corporate republicon spin. How about some honest truth for a change.

I hope FTN gets a great anchor once Scheiffer retires because besides the Chris Matthews show, I have nothing worth watching
at the moment.

31. In the minority
but I thought he did OK. I like him today more than I ever liked him before, much less Timmy or

Brokaw. He was a little rushed in his speech, but I can imagine he must have been a little nervous when

the whole country (those of us who watched) were ready and waiting to troll rate him. I was pleasantly

surprised and wish him well in the future. However, one performance does not make him a star.

36. Does anyone watch Fareed Zakaria on CNN on Sunday afternoon?
I find him to be an intelligent man who does not insult his audience by playing games. He recently interviewed Al Gore. He is more liberal leaning, endorsed Obama for president, and recently argued that there is a US auto industry that works. His show after the Mumbai attacks was very moving considering his mother works at one of the hotels there. If John King's new show bumps him off CNN I will be way disappointed.

37. Actually it wouldn't be the first time, back in the 80's MTP was at a low in the ratings
with "This Week with David Brinkley" and "Face the Nation" both beating it in the ratings. It made a comeback under Russert in the ratings. But even as #1 not a whole lot of people (comparably) watch--maybe 2-3 million per week.
