An Obama Statement That Could Make A Difference Immediately To So Many In Need....
With desperate pleas coming from food banks and other organizations which provide meals to those in need, it would help if the Obama Administration would help them out by calling on the public to make their charitable donations of food and $$ to these charities TODAY.

This would be a low cost/no cost effort which would make a difference.

It is a catastrophe for needy families to be turned away from food banks because they have run out of food.

Many people often discount the impact that their individual contributions would have on the great need, but there is strength in numbers.

IF you can, please do your part to help others get through the Holidays without going hungry ....

1. That's a great idea. Why don't you go post that suggestion
on his website?

2. I sympathize with the sentiment Jack
He got in front of a microphone today on the issue of the National Health crisis, and the appointment of Daschle... and got ONE QUESTION about health care

one

mmmm... You got MY vote eh... just doesn't seem likely... he DID, what he always does, prior to Thanksgiving though... to be fair... he is a role model... that was no photo op at the food shelf, eh?

Maybe he'll bring this up in one of his Saturday addresses prior to Christmas

Hope nobody gets snarky with ya

3. I talked with Food Bank workers a couple of months ago & they saw this coming...
I posted this simply because people need to be reminded that the little they do, when added to the efforts of their neighbors, can add up to a lot of relief when it comes to hunger.

I think the biggest obstacles to addressing hunger tend to be apathy and ignorance. I have no other agenda here than to remind people they have the power to do something really important.

It is hard for people to believe so many are hungry when we have so much food available for those who have the money to purchase it.

I believe Obama will address this, but right now would be the best time before people have their attention diverted by Holiday activities.

4. around here there is always a donation surge around the holidays
it's the rest of the year that's the most difficult

but these are tough times... more and more folks are swallowing their pride and showing up for help

for me... I'd like to see some intelligent reorganization of the whole food stamp program and a modification of those Draconian, Clinton era proscriptions on Public Assistance

5. "no photo op at the food shelf"?

"you hope people won't get snarky with the OP"?

Obama always goes to the shelter on Thanksgiving to feed people. Way before he was running and way before he got elected.

That's one heck of a load of snarky sarcasm you just unloaded on a man who is not even president yet...I hope your words just came out wrong. After 8 years of a POTUS who couldn't have cared less to even create a photo op to role model "care" and "compassion", I'm down on my knees in gratitude to have civility and caring coming back as values.

6. After the hurricane in August, the campaign texted a request for $5 donations to the Red Cross
so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

7. I donated $25 to my regional food bank yesterday.
I don't have much to give (I'm a grad student), but I realized that I have more than a lot of people this year...I have a secure job and so does my husband, and we live in a place that isn't being as rocked by the economic downturn. So even though we don't make very much money at all, we're secure and grateful.

10. If you have not visited the local food bank, you should ... to see what your $25 really does....
You are the type of people who make up the backbone of successful charitable efforts.

We all can give something for those less fortunate, and we don't have to wait until we can make a 'big donation' to make a difference.

Our local food bank can take that $25 and stretch it like you would not believe ... volunteers and contributions drive down the administrative costs, and almost all of your $25 goes directly to a needy family or individual.

IF they did not say it already, THANK YOU.

13. In the past I have taken young teenagers to volunteer there for just 1 hour...
You might not think that 1 hour of working at the Food Bank is worth the effort. However, consider this..... they usually end up sorting and packaging food, so that exposes them to the size of the job that must be done. One hour of work by a dozen teens equals 12 hours of labor contributed for free, which drives down administrative costs. They see people come in to pick up food, which acquaints them with people in need. They also see people(like yourself) who come in and make donations of their money, their time, and their labor, for a cause.

And finally, these teenagers go back home, and to their schools, and mix with their friends. They share what they did and what they saw. It is an experience which can have far reaching effects, as they view future solicitations to help the Food Bank.

15. Thanks for the info...I mean that.
Maybe I'll call them tomorrow and see if they need volunteers serving Christmas dinners or something. I'll be back home a few days before Christmas and, like I mentioned, I've been pretty blessed. I've also had the (mis)fortune of seeing what true poverty really is on a daily basis (I'm in Mexico right now) and it breaks my heart.

11. No It Won't - Has Nothing To Do With Blago - RW Media Will Ignore It
ABC will just cut away like they did during the press conference when a question regarding health care, the point of the press conference, is raised.

tomorrow, and will also spread the word to friends and family members.

I try to do two good things each day, but can't tell anyone...if you do, it doesn't count.

ETA: Living in a senior citizen building makes it a pretty easy thing to do.

Peace:thumbsup:
