(And this is posted in GDP because this is where I see it happen most often.)

2. Oh yes!
I haven't seen it much, thank goodness...

But when I see two people that I'm close to, going at it in a bad way...

That hurts.

3. Yes, because
I see a difference in disagreeing with one another and 'fighting'. All too often I have seen others fighting over this or that and it getting emotional versus having a disagreement over an issue.

Arguing is one thing, fighting is another - something I have said for years in a personal arena ;)

4. Oh, yeah ...
... it gives you an uncontrollable urge to dig up ALL of their previous posts and PM them to each in turn - saying, "Whoa, dudes, like you totally agree on everything - WTF is up with this crap?"

Ah, DU - the ultimate dysfunctional family.

5. Probably, but have you ever typed up a fairly long post, and when you go to launch it
you get roadblocked because the thread got locked while you were typing it up? That always sucks when it happens.

8. Ain't THAT the truth!
You always find yourself at your most eloquent, armed with the most convincing argument - like a post that will, in and of itself, end all the ills of the world - and when you hit "POST", you get that "thread locked" message.

Makes you want to contact the Admins and say, "Well, surely you'll make an exception here ..."

But they won't and they don't. And the BEST thought you ever had in your life is lost for all eternity ...

6. No. Because DUers work shit out.
I speak from experience. It might be via PM, might be the next day but we get on with it.

7. What I think is that I don't truly measure up to my reputation!
I find myself much more reasonable than I am often given credit for.

But yes, I don't like the personal nastyness that can sometimes flare up between two DUers that are both perfectly "logical"....on any other day, talking about any other thing.

10. In fact, the reverse. Two great minds with strong opinions going at it always makes the best debate....
We find a lot of that here at DU, and I think it's a strength of this community, not a detriment.

15. Nah.
When it's here, it either dies out or they can put each other on ignore.

Try having it happen in real life, in your local party. Some of that shit never dies. And putting them on ignore isn't an option.

16. Not really because I sometimes have secret admiration for the people I fight with.
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 01:31 AM by LoZoccolo
I know what's going on on the surface usually isn't the whole picture of the whole interaction, and often a strange sort of camaraderie arises from the rivalry.

Yeah, it's an ongoing lesson in what makes a community, or a nation.

It shouldn't be a surprise to people with a family, and yet it is an ongoing source of revelations.

Like a family.
