Beating swords into plowshares.
Yesterday when asked about how to handle the situation in Afghanistan, OUR President said...

"We've got to really ramp up our development approach to Afghanistan. Part of the problem that we've had is that the average Afghan farmer hasn't seen any improvement in HIS life. We haven't seen the kinds of infrastructure improvements. We haven't seen the security improvements. We haven't seen the reduction in narco-trafficking. We haven't seen a reliance on rule of law in Afghanistan that would make people feel confident that the central government can deliver on its promises. If we combine effective development, more effective military work as well as more effective diplomacy then I think we can stabilize the situation. Our number one goal has to be that it cannot be used as a base to launch attacks against the United States."

I never thought I'd find myself CRYING watching Meet the Press!!

Barack gets it. He knows that what motivates the farmer in Afghanistan is the same thing that motivates the auto worker in Detroit. These men (and women) are just trying to feed their families and make a better way for their children. Al Qaeda has been able to use Afghanistan has a strong hold because it has tapped into that basic need.

Is it actually true that we've elected a man who realizes that ALL people, even those who live in countries that may not be our allies, that ALL peoples lives are precious and something to be nurtured .... not just another target to knock out of our way?

Wow. It's almost too amazing to believe.

3. Number of times "cutting defense spending"(swords) mentioned= 0
Don't get me wrong. I'm willing to give Obama plenty of time to make me cry. However, this year we're going to have spent near 3/4 of a trillion dollars on "defense" while our economy is cratering. Talk about things that make one cry...
