My Freeper friend is freaking out
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 11:48 AM by mikeargo
My Freeper buddy at work is upset. When we were leaving work the other day, he said "Darn, the stock market was up again today." This is a guy who has lost nearly 40 percent of his retirement fund this year. Why wouldn't he be glad the market has been up for the last five days?

My guess: Some douchebag talk show host is holding out hope that if the market tanks further it will show that the public has no confidence in President-elect Obama and that the Electoral College will cast its votes for McCain-Palin. This guy listens to Hannity and Beck religiously (and I mean that in the literal sense) so I wouldn't be surprised if this was a meme out there in radioland.

1. If he's a friend why didn't you just ask him what he meant?

3. The day before...
He said something like "It's not over till it's over." When I asked him what he meant, he mumbled something about the Electoral College. That's why I'm thinking he heard something on Limbaugh or Beck.

5. Sometimes just asking ignorant people to explain themselves will
make them think before they repeat talking points. And it opens a line of dialog that might help them start thinking for themselves. I know it's hard but you could counter with letting him know that the stock market going up right is really good for him personally.

You'd better be prepared for anything when that doesn't happen.

12. You are right about that...
They are shoring each other up and they're whipped into a "hopeful frenzy".
As you said, "Be prepared when that doesn't happen."
They are going to FREAK and it will be head-exploding ugly.

21. Ah, the Cult of the COLB....
There's an attempt by the people believing Obama isn't a citizen (or not a natural born citizen) to convince the electors that it would be "treason" to vote for an "ursurper" and to ether throw the vote to McCain /Palin or have Sen Clinton come in and select McCain as a "unity" ticket (Biden having disqualified himself by being on an "illegal ticket")

They're also hoping that the Supreme Court takes one of the lawsuits appealed to them and uses it to disqualify Obama.

They're a pack of screaming fruit loops.

2. that's it in a nutshell
They have so much hate and fear they would rather see Obama fail even if they are significantly hurt in the process. How do you undo that type of mindset? It's not pretty.

11. I remember after 9/11
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 12:09 PM by Wetzelbill
I prayed for Bush, I really hoped he'd do a good job. I never liked the guy, didn't think he was legit and considered him a travesty, but I was totally behind him after that. I so wanted him to do well. I wanted us to do well in Afghanistan, do it right and move on in bipartisan uniform. I didn't want him to fail, not by a long shot, even though I personally knew I would never vote for him, I still wanted him to do well so our country could do well. I even told my family and friends that I wished him well and hoped he could lead us through the crisis and our war in Afghanistan skillfully. And later on, after it was apparent he couldn't, my youngest brother used to tease me about supporting Bush, lol. Hey I wished the guy would do a good job, I wish every president would. It's our country and the president's performance influences our lives. I don't think a significant portion of RWers get that. I think they'd simply rather see the guy fail at the detriment of our country.

8. You are posting a meme that you intuit exists because your buddy said "darn the stock market is up?
Thanks for sharing your new "guessed at" meme.
Now I've heard everything.

My leftie buddy told me at the disc golf course the other day that he was glad his computer got covered in beer and shorted out. He sure loved gaming on that box.

My guess?: Some freeps have taken over DU with douche bag memes they are making up and spreading around, so he's glad he's not there reading them.

So I wouldn't be surprised either.

I talk to this guy every day. This is just some of the crap he's been coming out with since the election. The other day it was something about the Marc Rich pardon. He doesn't say much about the birth certificate crap, I'll give him that much.

Check out my profile. I've been here since 2003. I don't post much, but lurk daily. And donate every quarter.

13. Ok, I'm sorry if I was too quick, but making up a new meme and posting it when for all you know it
doesn't exist seems a little pointless unless you want to help make it exist.

tell your buddy the electoral college voters are loyal robots of the left and are thoroughly programed. Then tell him that Rush and Hannity secretly work for us and are spreading false hope that the electoral college will flip to raise money from the fish.

i haven't checked out your profile because I don't care that much.

Tell your friend i said hi.

14. I have had a similar experience
this woman I know had $850,000.00 in the stock market (no job and no health insurance mind you). I told her to get that money OUT of there a long time ago (we are talking a few years). She did not listen.

She called me up sounding rather drunk about a week ago. She hates Obama, I know that much. She also listens to Limbaugh and watches FOX all day (need I say more?).

In any event, she went on to say that "Obama is messing around with the stock market!". I told her how could he, he is not even the president yet?

She replied that she wished that Obama would just go away and " ... ". I'll leave the word in the parenthesis up to your imagination. :grr:

I told her I thought she'd better shut up because she might find the Secret Service at her door. That did shut her up btw.

Damn these ignorant idiots! Damn them all! I don't care if ALL OF THEM lose EVERTHING in the stupid greedy assed STOCK MARKET!

:argh:

16. Why would anyone
want any president to fail? That makes no sense to me. I didn't like Bush. I didn't vote for him but I didn't wish failure on him. The fact that he did fail gives me little satisfaction only sadness and dispair because of the condidtion he is leaving this country in.

No matter who the president is it is in the best interests of the country for him or her to be a successful president. Wishing for failure is just stupid.

23. Yep!
Like the PUMA bigot "Jenniforhillary" who said recently:

"I am in a economy proof business, my parents have money, and I will NOT SUFFER.

We have one year of food PLUS, we have our gardens, we have our weapons, our bullets, our network.

We are prepared.

That being said, I CANNOT WAIT for the suffering to begin.

I hope there is starvation, I hope there is rioting, and i hope that there is massive death"

She seems to think the world needs to be punished because her two choices lost. (rolls eyes)

18. Exactly. I hated Bush, but I never hoped that the economy would collapse because of him.
It sounds like a "me first" kind of attitude.

'I hope the economy collapses, and people continue to suffer, because I want to see Obama fail' is exactly the kind of shit Limbaugh and Hannity are selling.

20. For all the mistakes
Bush made, I don't remember liberals gleeful that he was screwing up. Another soldier dead in Iraq? Yay! That didn't happen. I certainly have not been happy to see my IRAs lose 30% of their value. No dancing in the street for me at the economic downturn.

I want our government to be successful. I want American businesses to be successful - not greedy, successful.

I am thankful that Obama won. I am sorry that Bush was such a failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

29. you'll note
I did not refer to the woman I know as a "friend". That said, I find I actually am coming to dislike this woman as time goes on. We have nothing in common really. We may be distant cousins is about the only link I have to her.

She sickens me.

She has her guns, oh yes she does.

She likes to sit on her porch in Tennessee with it waving it around. What a horse's ass IMO.

And to think, she does this while drunk (her status in life most of the time best I can tell).

A bigot and and plain stupid. I really hope I don't hear from her again anytime soon. If I do, I'll be very tempted to simply hang up the phone on this very UGLY bitch and yes, that is what she is an UGLY BIGOTED BITCH! :grr:

However, I do not wish death upon her as she does to others I won't name. I'll let ya'll guess on that one. :(

You mean that he's an earnest and devoted fan, not that he thinks Hannity is actually God.

Please don't abuse the word "literally." It is the only thing protecting us from being consumed by metaphors.

Metaphorically speaking, that is.

especially in this situation, the market will come back down, some watching say that it's going up/down in waves(iow..goes up a bit, but not quite where it was, then goes down more than it's previous low point...then back up, but not quite as high as it was..and on and on, and that this action is expected to continue)....Obama has nothing to do with it...Obama is NOT running the stock market, the policies of the last few decades are...wb
