7. Having 60 Senators with a "D" after their name isn't what this is about
We need 60 people in the Senate who will vote for cloture motions whenever they come up. We don't care what letter, D, R, or XYZ, is after their name. Alienate Lieberman and he is less inclined to vote for cloture.

9. How can we trust Lieberman to vote for cloture or not to help republicans with their filibusters?

10. I'm not sure Reid has the balls to do this...
Remember, he had the chance already...

Still, I can't argue with your premise...

13. since a majority of the caucus (with Obama's blessing) supported
allowing lieberman to keep his chairmanship, exactly what do you think Reid could do to alter the result?

15. Reid's re-elect in Nev is about 35%. His act isn't winning over independents.

12. not going to happen
he didn't retain his chairmanship because he would be "number 60". In fact, 60 is a fantasy number. Democrats don't vote lockstep on cloture -- some Democrats, such as Landrieu, Johnson, the nelsons, often have bucked the party line. Lieberman will vote for or against cloture based on what he wants to do not what the party wants him to do.

Plus, the caucus overwhelmingly voted to allow to keep his chairmanship and there is no reason to think that anyone has had second thoughts.

Time to move on
