1. Kerry flops in the debates, WMD's are found, the economy suddenly....
"creates" 1,000,000 "new" jobs.

17. I cannot conceive of an scenario in which Kerry would flop at a debate
unless he drinks water that someone has laced with LSD.

24. But the media will call it for chimp...
Kerry will do spectacular at the debates but the media will call it for chimp if he shows up with his shoes tied.

25. Even on 8 hits of acid he would be more coherent than Junior!
Hell, it might get him to loosen up a little bit.

Mr pResident, not only are you a lying idiot, but so is that giant chartreuse tarantula crawling up your arm. He just told me there were STILL weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Now stop these damn walls from bleeding and TELL AMERICA THE TRUTH!!"

2. People place a great deal of importance on the debates.
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 04:18 PM by K-W
I think it is Kerry's chance either put Bush away or lose all momentum

edit: And it is too late for a VP switch on the GOP ticket, it would hurt the GOP at this point, unless Cheney died. And there wont be any WMD's, if they had them, theyd have shown them already.

4. I don't like the negative
tone of this poll. We don't need to be thinking of ways to lose. What's your point anyway?

9. Quite frankly, the optimism well is drying up.
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 04:23 PM by lib4life
I was trying to reflect on weaknesses that Kerry might need to focus on in order to win this election. You may not realize it, but things are a bit rough at the moment. Maybe I'm just venting, but like I said, the optimism tank is trying up, and the trealism tank is overflowing.

11. Realism?
We already know what Rove and Co. are capable of doing, so what's happening is to be expected. Don't know how you are guaging the "optimism well is drying up". Sounds like a RW talking point to me and Kerry doesn't need your kind of pessimism.

14. I don't like it either...
WTF! Who wants to think about ways to lose an election? Some of the options are ridiculous. Forged papers? Some people watch too much TV.

6. People who call themselves liberals but won't vote for him...
Our biggest danger is people who still insist on ideological purity from their candidate or who are more concerned with being annoyed at us having a two party system then they are at what Bush has done to the country.

It's not even just Nader voters. I know people who consider themselves liberal but who are going to sit this election out altogether because one issue or the other gets them annoyed at Kerry and they refuse to look at the issues with which they agree with Kerry.

If all of these people voted for Kerry we would win in a landslide.

16. Honestly, I was just venting.
It's tempting at times to indulge in self-pity and defeat, but that won't change things.

13. I've seen Kerry speak twice now...
and he's way to bright and eloquent to do this (blow the debates). His only issue, from where I stand, is keeping it concise.

15. I think it's important not to set the debate bar
too high for Kerry...everyone thought Gore would blow Bush out of the water in the 2000 debates, so when Dubya turned in a decent (but not spectacular) performance, he was crowned the winner. Ann Richards similarly underestimated him in their Governor's race in 1994. Fool me once...

21. I get the psychology ...
but it doesn't change the fact that Kerry will be better. They aren't challenging their own expectations - they're challenging each other. Kerry is a much better extemporaneous speaker, which explains why Bush is chickening out on the town hall open forum whatchacallit. And I think that Kerry is a lot more polished than Gore. Besides, this is among supporters ... not set up by the media for broad public consumption. I'd like to think we can be honest here ...?

19. Kerry blowing the debates
But I doubt that will happen. I think Gore got too much conflicting advice and it confused him and made him nervous. Kerry is very steady and he has direction. I hope he focuses a lot on Bush's flip flops.

22. I really think the debates is where Gore lost.
As much as I wanted him to win in 2000, I remember watching that debate where he kept sighing in the background. One time might have actually been good, but continuous like he did was very bad. Even I said OHHH, he shouldn't be doing that!

I suspect some advisor suggested that, but they were very wrong.

Kerry won't do that, forst because all the handlers have learned from history, and second that's just not him. But could he do something equally dumb? Who knows.
