I'm not worried about Obama's choices right now.
Above all else, Obama is a knowledge-driven, flexible guy who has the interests of the people at heart. Maybe right now he wants to play a sort of centrist game, but I think the enormity of coming events is going force him very far leftward because nothing short of rapid, revolutionary change is gonna suffice to pull us out. With millions about to become unemployed in the competitive workplace, universal health care will become a necessity. We will need a new and saner public assistance program. We will need a better retirement system because the collapse of Wall Street, and of the big corporations, will rob people of their retirement savings and pensions. A collapsing infrastructure will force us to start massive public works programs, and if we're gonna rebuild it, we'll have to build it green. We won't be able to afford luxuries like our crazy drug wars, not to mention the shooting wars and the bloated military it takes to fight them. The simple fact of the matter is that progressive solutions are the only possible solutions; nothing else will work.
