Reid: I don’t apologize to anyone for what we did today.”
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 12:35 PM by ProSense

Senate Democrats allow Lieberman to go unpunished: We ‘feel good about what we did today.’

Today in a closed-door meeting, Senate Democrats voted 42-13 to allow Joe Lieberman (I-CT) to keep his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, despite his attacks on Barack Obama during the campaign season. Today, Senate Democrats held a press conference during which they stood by Reid and surrounded him with their support. Some highlights of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) remarks:

– “We’re looking forward, we’re not looking back.”

– “I understand anger. … I would defy anyone to be angrier than I was. But is this a time when we walk out of here and say, ‘Boy, did we get even?’”

– “I am satisfied with what we did today. I feel good about what we did today. I don’t apologize to anyone for what we did today.”

– “The question is, do I trust Senator Lieberman? The answer is yes, I trust Senator Lieberman.”

Disgusting.

Trust my ass!

10. Does seem like they need a class in how to handle WINNING.
I mean damn. We won this is EXACTLY the time for partisan politics. Or are we going to come in, fix all the Repuke fuck-ups and then turn the reigns back over to them again to start the cycle all over again?

7. I think Harry Reid owes an apology to the people of Maine and Tom Allen who ran against Collins
Lieberman campaigned and did major fundraising for Susan Collins. We had an excellent candidate in Congressman Tom Allen. I'm not saying Lieberman is solely responsible for Tom losing but he campaigned AGAINST A DEMOCRAT! I am appalled at the Senate Dems for allowing him to retain his chairmanship.

I know the Party has no control over the Congress but this is a slap in the face to everyone who worked to elect Democrats this cycle.

11. I Think that Collins' win was more...
...a vote FOR her and not AGAINST Tom Allen. I do agree however, that lieberman didn't help.

The Democratic caucus just sent a message that they may be screwed with and back-stabbed with impunity. Spineless.

Someone ought to remind Harry just who the fuck he works for. He had every right to vote the way he thought was right but to come out and basically say that he doesn't have to justify what he does to the people he works for is hubris usually seen from the Republican side.

14. Spineless
When a spineless leader leads a spineless Caucus and makes such a spineless decision, the end result will always be spineless.

Did you really expect anything more. The Senate Ds are in no way the House Ds.

"The man's father is a wonderful human being," Reid, D-Nev., told students at Del Sol High School when asked about the president's policies. "I think this guy is a loser."

Shortly after the event Reid called the White House to apologize, his spokeswoman Tessa Hafen said. Reid spoke with Bush adviser Karl Rove (search), asking him to convey the apology to Bush, who was traveling in Europe.

The Nevada Democrat expressed "regret for the comments, that it was inappropriate," Hafen said. Reid was giving a late speech in Salt Lake City and was unavailable for comment, she said.
