Is Hillary really a good idea as SOS?
Two things she said during the primaries scared the bejeesus out of me...

Her umbrella of deterrence in the middle east.
Her pledge to annihilate Iran for an attack on Israel.

I thought those two things were pretty crazy to say and am wondering if it wouldn't send a bad signal.

I mean, would Bill Richardson have said those things?

1. are you suggesting that Hillary would "go rogue"? Ridiculous shit.
Hillary, is smart, knows the ins and outs of foreign policy and diplomacy, is disciplined, etc. She'd be working for President Obama. And no, it wouldn't send a bad signal if she becomes SoS,

2. Not rogue, but does she have diplomatic skills?
I guess I was looking for someone more conciliatory. More in the mold of Obama or Colin Powell or Bill Richardson. They kind of tone it down instead of revving it up.

3. She won't be making up her own fricken policy dfk.
She'll be carrying out Obama's.

What's wrong with you?

5. Yes, but a person's style is a person's style.
We can't all have a diplomatic manner you know.

I guess I have never seen her in the role of peacemaker and I do think that it takes a certain skill set that I haven't seen from her. Even when there were disagreements within her campaign, it seemed like she didn't solve them, but let everyone swing it out around her.

People say that she was a disciplined candidate, but then must I assume that everything she said was carefully planned and executed? Especially the things that I found so upsetting? I'd rather hope they were off the cuff.

7. What are you trying to say? That she's not capable of
carrying out Obama's foreign policy without flying off the handle?

If there was ever an example of her remarkable diplomatic skills, all you have to do is look at how impressive she was as an ambassador for Obama during his post-primary campaign.

I'm sure you listened to her speeches.

Pure diplomacy.

Come on now.

11. Well, I beg to differ with you, but Hillary is perfectly diplomatic.
Somehow, some of you hang on stupid things about Hillary, or what she said, that you then build up in your mind to be something they are not.

I'm fucking sick of it, and I wasn't even a Hillary supported.

Get the fuck over your obsession with Hillary hate.

4. no, she will execute the policies of the Chief Executive.
My concern is that we would lose a leading advocate of Universal healthcare in the Senate, and her duties as SOS would lead her away from this focus.

6. I'd much rather see her on healthcare too.
Or education. I think those are hugely important issues which are
important for our country's future.

I guess there are areas I would think she would do better on, and I just don't like the idea of having someone with ideas that scare me as SOS.

8. You get half a point.
She was asked what her response would be if Iran launched a :nuke: """"""""""""""""""""NUCLEAR ATTACK"""""""""""""""""""":nuke: <Yes these are key words> against Israel. Please try not to rewrite history ala repukes.

9. Wow... what is up with DU today? Hillary has brought out all the instant drama
Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 09:19 AM by eshfemme
Hey, I totally understand what your qualms are and it would suck if the media reports about Hillary are because of some ignorant DC gossips and not actually based in reality. But if they are actually what Obama intends (I will wait for his official statement before I can trust that the media reports on it are accurate), I'm sure that it means that Obama knows of those differences Hillary has and is confident in his ability in making Hillary adhere to HIS vision.

Granted, there are certain qualities to the Clintons that worry me such as their uncanny ability to attract drama but hopefully that will be negated by No Drama Obama's abilities. Also, of course, there are still Hillary's ambitions to consider, which might be scary considering all the bad feelings she caused during the primaries and just now calmed down. We shall see there.

But for now, I'm thinking that Obama's excellent managerial skills would help in managing a "Team of Rivals" style cabinet.

For the people who flame as a kneejerk reaction, please just read the fucking post before you go off on others. I'm really sick of this bullshit.

12. Forget about the crap said during the campaign. Hillary is smart, she will do fine...
and she will implement the Obama administration's policies.

13. I liked Chuck Hagel with Hillary eventually being Senate Majority Leader, BUT
I trust Pres. Obama's judgment and think Hillary will do a great job.

14. No--I don't think she has a diplomatic skill set, and I don't see where she's
a foreign policy expert. Besides, why invite drama and gossip into the administration?

I don't think she would be the person for the job.
Her husband, on the other hand...

Same reasons I didn't support her in the primary. No need to rehash here though.
