Poll question: Peru's national dog: Lovable or Leavable?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 02:21 PM by BurtWorm

This little pup, who answers to the name Macchu Pichu, was offered to the Obamas by the president of Peru Hairless Dog Association.

You like?

14. They are much like a Xoloitzcuintli
But the Peru Hairless is a different breed. I know a woman who has two of them. I would definitely not recommend the bredd to anyone who is not extremely dog-savvy.

31. I would recommend one to "regular folks"
as long as that person was really up on dog body-language. The dogs are very true to their handler/owner, but they can be difficult around strangers or crowds. They require hands-on care and will tear a place up if left alone. They are also susceptible to skin ailments.

13. There is a woman in our town with two of these dogs. One of them can do backflips.
They are unreal fast, for a small dog (maybe 18" tall). The dogs I have seen are redder than the one in the picture.

I would definitely not recommend this dog for the Obamas. To handle a hairless, you better know your business when it comes to dogs.

21. aww, he's both!
He's definitely loveable, but for kids, probably leavable - but I'd take him - what a sweetie!

I think the girls should get a soft-coated Wheaten Terrier or Bichon Frise - both hypoallergenic and adorable! I'm partial to the Wheaton - I've had 2 Tibetan Terriers that look just like this breed - sweeter more obedient dogs would be hard to find, and loyal too. Love 'em!

43. The breed is also called the Inca Orchid...
...but not if you ask breeders, apparently. I met one at a dog show years ago and asked the handler if it was an Inca Orchid, to which she replied with great disdain, "Peruvian Hairless." Oh well. Can't hold the dog responsible for the owner's bad attitude. I love the hairless breeds, I think they're very cool (er ... no pun intended!).
