I just got home from observing the election canvas in Ventura.
They have tons of absentee ballots to still be unsealed and counted. I watched as they matched the signature on the envelope to the signature on file electronically. then I also observed them making duplicates of ballots the scanner refused to accept for whatever reason they look to see if they are over votes and make a duplicate one saw the person I was observing for get a few votes in that process. She is down by 15 votes right now about neck and neck! I also saw the scanners doing stacks of ballots reminded me of the movie Eagle Eye where the ATM throws out the money. Anyway it was good to see our democracy in action I just wish I could trust the tabulating software better as who knows what is in that code! Well the people seemed to be doing a great job and they have their hands full with it they started out with 86000 absentee and provisional ballots the day after election they still have 50K still to go as of yesterday afternoon. Hum that is about the same as the number in all of Alaska :wtf:

4. I was looking at the general counting
and I went as a very close person to me is running for city council in Oxnard she was ahead by 400 votes then 300 yesterday she is behind by 15! But that is not the only close election Hanna Beth Jackson the Democratic ticket for State senate is just ahead of the Repug so there are lots of people from the Democratic party and from Strickland observing it! That race was the most costliest in California in fact rivals the most costliest in the House.

7. Wow - that sounds really exciting - in a really politically nerdy sort of way...
...and I mean that in the most positive way - I love this stuff - I hope your friend pulls it out.

8. Yes it was an inspiring experience to walk around there and watch the wheels of democracy work!
This election has broken more records than any other it appears!

A record 425,968 Ventura County voters were eligible to cast ballots in Tuesday's election, a 12.5 percent increase since the first of the year.

The final registration numbers, released Oct 30th by elections officials, reflect a spike in interest among young voters, Clerk-Recorder Phil Schmit said.

"The young people have so much interest in this election," he said. "And not only have they registered, they're pulling mail-in ballots and they're voting."

Schmit said that by the beginning of the day Thursday his office had already processed a record 78,262 mail-in ballots and expects to process thousands more by the weekend. The process includes checking the signature on each ballot against the signature on the voter's registration form.

Elections officials have sent out 176,725 mail-in ballots, representing 41.5 percent of all county voters. Schmit is projecting a turnout of 83 percent, which would mean about half of all votes cast this fall will be on mail-in ballots.

County officials released the results of 23,790 more late absentee ballots on Monday. The county has now counted 280,342 votes, and officials have said they think about 55,000 absentee and provisional ballots remain to be counted. The final count could take days or weeks.

10. At the precinct I was observing there were alot of overvotes
People would overfill the line, or vote straight party then mark a candidate. The people working the polls were very patient but got annoyed that the tallying machine was so damned picky.
