A message board for grownups
Are there any message boards for Democratic grownups?

I prefer one of the current candidates over the others, but I will support whoever goes into the GE against bush.

Does anyone know of a bulletin board for people like me.

2. Actually DU is a great place for grownups
How you are received depends a lot on how you receive others.

If you treat others with respect and deference to the fact that others can have different opinions, then you will be treated the same.

Also, if you see a thread that has the potential of becoming a flaming flame war, avoid it. That's the adult thing to do.

4. You might try the boards over at the NARP
There are a lot of old geezers over there. Although, they may have an age limit, 55 and better.

:P

7. and this grownup board
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 06:48 PM by silverlib
has an ignore button and an alert button. I've only used the ignore for a couple of days for one poster just so I could cool off and keep my own credibility (you know, not telling the poster I thought they wore their underwear backwards).

The mods that monitor the alerts are wonderful, nonpartisan people who help us remain adults when we start to show our "inner child."

I stay in the lounge a lot lately, which is also an option. It's a very friendly place to go. When I feel the other forums are getting too deep, I quickly escape to friendlier territory.

Good luck! Hope you continue to hang out with the rest of us.

8. Some pointers
Hello, and welcome.

Stay mostly in the other forums, and just come to this one when you have morbid curiosity and feel up to a hit-and-run. I think that the Latest Breaking News forum is, bar none, the best source on the Internet to get political news. If it's reported in another publication, it will show up within minutes in LBN.

General Discussion is more of a minefield, but you'll get to know who posts what and you'll find that with some posters, you can depend on good, solid discussions (sometimes even brilliant) day in, day out.

The Meeting Room is especially good too. You'll see plenty of astrology stuff, which isn't my thing, but there are many other slow-burn discussions of a worthwhile nature.

If you just want to find out news about candidates and races, and you don't want to read all the flaming, peruse the subject lines in this forum, and read the ones you're interested in. But stop after reading the thread-starting post, don't go any further, or you'll see the flame fodder, guaranteed.

9. Go to democrats.us
That is my "home board". It's smaller and I've come to know the regular posters there. They initiate serious discussion most of the time. I really like the smallness of it!

Or, you could stay here and play with the big kids and ignore the whiny little snots.

Whiny little snots turn up in the strangest places, though.

15. I think like in real life, you simply have to pick the person(s)
to converse with and the topics you want to discuss. And avoid those that smack of juvenalia. In my brief experience here, this does seem possible.

16. I am locking this thread.
Not content for this forum and a tad bit inflammatory.

Thanks,
