I know there are other issues, but we're sort of sitting on a time bomb here.

1. That was neither candidate's strongest area, however,
Obama knew far and away more about it than McCain (not really too hard to do, I know) and I would guess he is going to get some pretty damn well-informed people in there for education.

The only thing that ever bugged me on education that Obama said was his support or near-support of vouchers. Vouchers are a seriously fucking bad idea.

Damn I wish I were on his group of people to advise in areas of education. I've got some ideas, LOL.

2. my hope
is that this won't be the area in which he seals his "post-partisan" image.

5. Surprised that you didn't read OBama's Education platform.....
and that you confuse Charter schools with Vouchers. A confusion I would expect the media to make when trying to muddle things......but not DUers since after the primaries.

7. No, I got that from something Obama said in one of the debates
about vouchers.

4. I don't know 'where' it is, but the agenda he has laid out looks great to this teacher
check this out, if you haven't seen it: http://change.gov/agenda/education/

8. Where does education sit in the US government, by the way?
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 03:00 PM by Posteritatis
There's fairly sharp spheres of influence in Canadian politics over what the federal government can deal with (for example, defense, foreign relations, international development, etc) and what the provincial governments can deal with (education, natural resources, health care, etc). The divisions are breached as often as observed, but it's generally understood that if the federal government wants to do something with education it's usually done by catering to (or leaning on) the provinces, who have the constitutional power to actually implement programs. So the idea of Harper having much of a say in education is a bit alien to me. (It's a bit alien to me for less institutional reasons, of course, but that's a whole different rant.)

I'm assuming the American system is very different there. Could someone explain it to me?
