THE RACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE
Nader Says Kerry Will Lose, Bring the Democrats Down
By Kathleen Hennessey
Times Staff Writer

September 10, 2004

WASHINGTON — Sen. John F. Kerry is going to lose the presidential election and bring Democratic congressional candidates down with him, independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader said Thursday.

The Democrats, he said, have "lost the clarity of being an alternative to Bush and Cheney. This is the most vulnerable administration in many years. They're not laying a glove on them."

Nader, who won 2.7% of the popular vote in 2000, said that Kerry and his running mate, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, had hired too many campaign consultants, focused too heavily on ads and too little on grass-roots organization, and were neglecting core Democratic issues and constituencies.

"The Democrats do not win when they do not have Jesse Jackson and African Americans in the core of the campaign," Nader said.

At a recent meeting in Chicago, Nader said, Jackson expressed concern that African Americans were not the target of voter registration drives. <snip>

26. This is all part of the Nader plan.
If you notice he is fighting hardest to get or stay on the ballots in the battleground States. He and his misguided followers want Kerry to lose, but its not because they like Bush or are closet Republicans. They hate Bush too. But the way they see it, the only way to "save" this country is to run it to the ground. So helping Bush to win a second term and letting him finish destroying the country helps them achieve this goal. He believes that only by total collapse will the people "see the light" and then that will pave the way for a new, progressive future for the country. I do not agree with him but this is his reason for doing what he is doing. I think that in his own deranged mind he sees himself as the hero who will help wake up the country. I imagine he envisions a statue dedicated to him. Maybe next to Lincoln's. :eyes:

than he does about the fate of our party's nominee. If he gave a damn he would help John Kerry get elected instead of backbiting and underminining him in the states where he has used republicans to finance his access to the ballots.

25. voter registration
My son is heavily involved in voter registration. He's 21 and he and his friends carried voter registration books with them all summer, signing up kids at parties and concerts. They also went door to door in some areas.

Now the school year has started it is more organized. At his University he's part of an effort that sends volunteers to every "big" class to announce to the class that they are standing by after the class to register voters. They also have several events scheduled to register kids. It's pretty impressive.

My mom has had people knock on her door to register her (she's registered). She lives in a "dem" area, I live in a "GOP" area so its better her door knocked on than mine.

I also live in a very red state so except for local races it won't matter, still, from my perspective, its pretty active. The kids are all worried about a draft under Bush so they seem as involved as we were when we were kids during Vietnam.

19. I agree that if * wins, the Dems will be broken.
I don't know if I'd want to be a Democrat anymore if we can't beat this chimp. What's the point of belonging to an opposition party, if that party is so beholden to the corporate interests that they can't fight back effectively?

I also agree that the Democrats "lost the clarity of being an alternative to Bush and Cheney. This is the most vulnerable administration in many years. They're not laying a glove on them."

Having said all this, I don't believe that Kerry will lose. BBV aside, Kerry is going to be the next president of the United States; not because he offers a clear alternative to Bush, but because * is the most incompetent individual to ever sit in the presidency.

...you didn't even get five percent of the vote last time. It's the reason the Green Party WON'T be getting federal funds for this election. Hell, you can't even get on all 51 ballots this year. In short...

29. Read Borowitz's humorous take on it.
http://www.borowitzreport.com/

Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader is “seriously considering” dropping out of the 2004 presidential contest amid fears that the election “may not be close enough to wreck,” Mr. Nader confirmed today.

Speaking in Washington, a sober-sounding Mr. Nader said that current polls showing President Bush holding a double-digit lead over Democratic challenger John Kerry suggest that the election “might not be within spoiling range.”

“I entered this race for one reason and one reason alone: to ruin it,” Mr. Nader said. “If, at the end of the day, I determine that this election is not close enough for me to wreck, I will do the only sensible thing and drop out.”

snip

Elsewhere, President Bush clarified his position on whether or not the United States could win the war on terror, telling an audience in Ohio that he now believes the war on terror would end in a tie.

33. Nader is a Roveie-Girl

Bought and Officially Paid For by Rove.

What the hell has Nader ever done for my people?
When did he get to be the best friend of Jesse's?
Nader needs to focus on why he can't get enough valid voters to qualify him in many states. That should be his focus.

I am proud to be an African American.
Jesse may be right that Kerry needs to hire some more brothers and sisters. But Jesse needs to keep his big mouth shut on this one. We have bigger fish to fry right now.

IMO, Jesse has been solidly behind Kerry. His ego gets in the way many times. Most African Americans understand him. He is one of our children after all.

I tell you what, if Kerry doesn't win this election there will be a Supreme Court that will deny Affirmative Action and jobs to thousands of African Americans, not just those sitting in Kerry's office making maybe $2000 or more a month until November.

Nader and Jesse need to shut ** up!

whether Nader turns out to be right or not, we'll have to wait to see once the election happens.
Sounds to me he is speaking from a consistent position that is basically in line with a socialist perspective on the two party system representing the bourgeoisie interests.

These responses of posters have a century old tradition behind them.

44. but what if he is correct
at least in his assertion that Kerry will lose? Don't mean to piss on everybody's cornflakes but I'm starting to feel THE FEAR gnawing at the corners of my soul. I went on vacation out of country a couple days before the RNC began and everything seemed OK. Upon return I cannot help but feel as though Kerry is treading water. Where is the fire, the boldness? This BS of fighting for the mythical middle is killing us, and the constant fine tuning of the message gives openings to the flipflop crap. Is it too late for Kerry to significantly, positively differentiate himself from the lying scumbag in the minds of the masses? I sure as hell hope not.
Pray the gods that I'm a chickenshit whiner with no grasp on reality.
Otherwise the so called loony left and the traitorous, egomanical Ralphie...................well, maybe someone should have listened. Or maybe those someones really didn't care, as long as the Democratic Party stayed on the reservation.
