THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES: Our Only Hope
My friends, I am beginning to think that the only thing between here and election day that can swing the BIG MO back into our favour, are the presidential debates.

karl rove obviously knows this, which is why he wants W to get as limited and choreographed an exposure as possible.

If Kerry doesn't hit a home run in those debates, we're screwed. But I have total faith in Kerry, I know he'll do everything he possibly can to be as prepared and hard hitting as he feels he has to be.

I guess I just have to resign myself to seeing these kinds of threads every day for the next two months.

The REAL campaign is about a week old. Let's not start predicting doom and gloom. In case you hadn't noticed, Bush hasn't had a very good week.

Edit: Sorry, this is a reply to the original post.

3. Our ONLY hope??
Nah.

The polls are skewed. There are new books coming out. There are major investigations under way. There are many, many groups communicating with voters, registering them, and watching polling places.

* really was AWOL, and people will keep discussing it.

Anything could happen in two months.

We are doing everything we can.

6. Gore lost the debates, won the election.
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 02:56 AM by BillyBunter
The only real impact debates have is if someone screws up really bad. That's why Bush is trying to weasel out of the town hall format, because it's easy to get a question you aren't prepared for, which, to Bush, is more dangerous than a loaded pretzel or a heaping coke spoon.

17. The media said Gore lost debates...
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 06:14 AM by NicRic
I believed Gore won the debates. The bar was set so low for bush ,all he had to do was show to be declared the winner. I hope its not the same this time, afraid it will be ! I did'nt watch the repug convention, however according to the media every speaker "hit a homerun" Excuse me while I go throw up. I've been having alot of nausea the last few years, I really hope it ends soon !

9. How the hell can you type while you're wringing your hands like that?
That's what I want to know. Thanks for the panic; I'm not getting enough of it elsewhere. What earthly good does your thread do? Even with your "total faith", it's got the ring of a death knell.

Remember what it was like 2 months before the Iowa Caucus: Dean was the great unbeatable godking. Think about it, and cringe elsewhere.

10. You are our only hope
It is up to you (and me) to put in an extra minute, hour or day on this campaign. It is up to you (and me) to make a second effort when the first is rebuffed. It is up to you (and me) to do everything in our power at the grassroots level to change this country. It won't be about the debates. It will be about how Kerry is perceived by America. Are you ready? I am.

16. Bush got a bounce from the convention - but there is more time...
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 06:09 AM by Democat
As long as Kerry is strong and smart for the rest of the campaign, he should kick Bush's ass in November.

Maybe you have somewhere else to be? :)

19. Not really
If someone started pushing Graham's assertions, that would be big time. The question I have is why don't the dems do that? Too many have been co-opted by corporate power?

26. I disagree. Electoral College momentum is definitelly in Camp Kerry
See Truthisall's model. See Sam Wang's model. See Chris Bowers' mark-up on mydd.com

It's time for everyone to pull up their panties and do what they can to ensure the momentum continues.

And drop the gloom.
