2. 20 years ago, desktop publishing font standards were established...

Not to trivialize the importance of the topics addressed in this fine document, but come on. Someone needs to work on presentation here. It makes a difference when you're trying to make a point.

8. I had not a single problem reading the document. Did you?
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 09:00 AM by Ozma
It's written in English, with appropriate dates, facts, easy to understand, reads like a time line. Succinct, to the point, uses real names and places. What's the problem?

6. I thought Africa sold their people to the US, and other countries?
I guess if people from other countries had them, they brought them here as well....

Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 09:01 AM by Ozma
There were slaves in the caribbean before the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth.
Why?
To supply Europeans with sugar and rum from plantations.

26. And there were several thousand slaves in London.
The British, in fact, were late to the party, since the first European to engage in the slave trade was Portuguese in the late 1400s.

I've been toying with a theory for several years that Shakespeare's company employed at least one African, since there are several plays that feature black Africans (e.g., Othello, Measure for Measure, Merchant of Venice).

11. 1619 is the accepted date
The first record of African slavery in Colonial America occurred in 1619. A Dutch ship, the White Lion, had captured 20 enslaved Africans in a battle with a Spanish ship bound for Mexico.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_United_States#Colonial_America

This jibes with the 389 year figure.

which would be 30 years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Robinson
