HOLY FUCKING SHIT. DO YOU REALIZE WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

Do you realize what just happened in America? Despite all of the odds, we elected a black man named Barack Hussein Obama. He had everything and I mean everything going against him. As a matter of fact, this man has CONSISTENTLY overcame the odds that have been against him his entire life. What do we know about Obama's life?

Born to a white mother and Kenyan father. Father left him at 2 years old. Raised on food stamps. A black kid living in Indonesia for a part of his young life. Shipped back to the states to live with his elderly grandparents. Living as a black kid in Hawaii, desperately trying to figure out who he was and where his place would be in the world. Gets on the wrong track early in life but then turns it around magnificently.

Goes to college and excels. Then, instead of working on Wall Street, goes to Chicago and works for poor people, organizing them. Why would a kid, with opportunities out of the wazoo choose to do something like that? Then he decides to go to law school and is elected the first black president of the Harvard Law Review.

Then goes back to the south side of Chicago to organize poor folks and promote getting as many people registered to vote as possible.

Then fast forward and in 2004, Obama is elected to the U.S. Senate. The third black person post Reconstruction to do such a thing. I remember at the time being totally shocked that everything was just falling into place for OBama. People were saying Obama didn't have a real opponent and that he basically walked into the Senate. I wonder if those people are still thinking the same thing?

Then fast forward to this election. Obama had everything going against him.

- no black person has ever been nominated by a major political party, let alone anything like this
- there are two black governors in the country, one of whom was elevated because the white governor resigned
- Obama is fairly liberal
- Think about the Wright controversy
- First name "Barack"
- Middle name "Hussein"
- Last name "Obama"
- If you know anything about the smears that have been out there, Barack's name had special meaning to some freepers as some sort of sign
- Obama was called a socialist, communist, terrorist, sexist, racist, Nazi, redistributer
- Obama is from the South Side of Chicago. Status Quo Democrats claimed only southern white males in the party could win the presidency. Obama blew that myth out of the water
- inexperience, Clinton's 3am phone call ad
- Celebrity smear
- Biden saying that Obama would be tested within 6 months of his presidency in an international crisis
- 2 wars going on and a recession

And people STILL chose to vote for Obama. They chose to go against a Vietnam POW "war hero" who has been a senator for almost 30 years and who had earned a significant amount of bipartisan support. Even the Clintons loved McCain. Obama beat THEM and McCain and didn't even break a SWEAT. He didn't even get riled up about it. You didn't hear any leaks, infighting. It's as if they knew all along he would win going away.

President Obama was born to be president for this moment in history. No one else was meant to do it right now and nothing anyone could have done would have stopped it. It is destiny.

I remember Hillary telling Katie Couric that this whole matter would be wrapped up by Super Tuesday. Boy was she wrong. Fast forward a year and Barack Hussein Obama is the fucking 44th President of the United States of America!!!!!!! NUMBER 44! When you think of the Clintons, you think of just a powerful machine. Obama beat them out of nowhere. They weren't even paying attention to him. They were worried about John Edwards. But, YES WE CAN. He grabbed the nation's imagination and took off. Only a FEW politicians have ever been able to do that. I think of FDR, JFK, and RFK. Republicans would think of Reagan. Even many Republicans were INSPIRED by this man. That is saying a lot. He has a very eloquent and dignified manner about him that just screams LEADER. Not too many politicians have that. Many of them are perpetually concerned about what the polls say instead of standing on principles. They are embroiled in constant campaigning, while throwing a bone out to the people every once in a while to placate the masses.

Obama truly loves this country. A lot of people say they do but then try desperately to destroy the country by dividing it and abusing power. Obama LOVES this country and the people in it. He loves the POOR. When was the last time we had a president who LOVES the poor? He understands what the founding fathers meant when they drafted the Constitution. He understands that document intimately. He also understand the United State's role in the world, how our power and influence can literally bring people out of poverty, stop genocide, end wars, end the tyranny people live under in rogue nations, and how the United State's biggest tool is our ideals and hope for the world.

I was following the superdelegate support from the beginning of the year, before the first primaries, and she has scores of their endorsements including my own senator and a number of CA representatives and I WAS LIVID!!!

The California primary was still weeks away, not a single Californian had voted!

I could go on and on and on, but one defining moment to many of my friends was the gas tax pander.

Hillary demonstrated herself to be identical in that respect to McCain, political expediency over truth, and Obama had the courage and integrity to be honest.

What a candidate, what a leader, what a president!

all day, and all night, everyone has done nothing but talk about race...we elected a black man...did anyone ever expect to see this in their lifetime, etc, etc, etc.

I don't think it's so much that this country would have not elected a black president before now, but has there ever been a SERIOUS, qualified contender before? I can't remember any. Jessee Jackson in my mind, never had a chance, because he just doesn't have 'it', and as much as I find Al Sharpton entertaining, I don't think he was a serious candidate either.

Obama just had it all right. If he had come along years ago, I think he would have won as well. Maybe if MLK would have lived, he too could have been elected.

Just something I was thinking about today. Not to take anything away from this historic election, or Obama, but my vote for him never had anything to do with the color of his skin. It was because I thought he was better suited for the job. Even without Biden I still would have voted for him.

I mean, doesn't it defeat the purpose of uniting this country, when the media keeps making an issue out of Obama's race?

Honestly, I think Obama had EVERYTHING going for him.

I am much more excited to have someone who I feel reflects my life and values, regardless of color. But I certainly understand what it means to minorities to finally feel like they're truly part of "We The People". It is monumental.

last night during that acceptance speech... i just kept thinking "we actually ELECTED this guy."
