Clark: Danger to the Democratic Party
SERIOUS DANGER awaits the Democratic Party if Clark continues to show strength. The media, led by CNN, has been promoting a falsely glamorous picture of the general who is distrusted, disliked, and disrespected by a number of his military and diplomatic colleagues and whose career is marked far more by institutional chutzpah than by military heroics.

The media, which often has childlike fantasies concerning military officials, has not bothered to look closely into Clark's background. Among the things it might find if it did: how Richard Holbrooke insisted on a top aide always being close to Clark in case he said something stupid in public, how Clark endangered peace negotiations, and the lieutenant colonel responsible for keeping Clark's shoes shined.

The danger is that, after a few early primaries, some of the other candidates may drop out, throwing their support to Clark, who already has the backing of the crypto-Republican wing of the party led by the Clintonistas and the Democratic Abandonship Council. In such a case, Dean's lead could dramatically dwindle and the party could be left with a loose cannon as its candidate.

1. HawkeyeX, we all know that you are a Howard Dean....
supporter. This is nothing more than a cheap trick to smear Wesley Clark who happens to be my candidate! I could make the same arguement that Howard Dean has a bad temper and does not get along well with others!

66. There are facts on the record
and there are deliberate smears targeting negative emotional reaction. Like Dean's "anger"... Just why is it a bad thing? What attracted me to him was his righteous anger and willingness to stand up to Bush- as opposed to some packaged commodity whose image caters to the fear that Bush manufactures. That is not the kind of strength the Democrat's need. We need to challenge the climate of fear, not participate in the deception.

LOL. More like running with scissors, I think. What was that Helen Thomas said about

It seems to me his competitors would do better to toot their own horns instead of tearing down a colleague. ... They should be guided by the maxim: "United we stand. Divided we fall."

She said it about Dean, so it's true... but it's being used to defend Clark, so it can't be true... but she said it about Dean, so it's true... but it's being used to defend Clark, so it can't be true... but she said it about Dean, so it's true... but it's being used to defend Clark, so it can't be true... but she said it about Dean, so it's true... but it's being used to defend Clark, so it can't be true... but she said it about Dean, so it's true... but it's being used to defend Clark, so it can't be true... but she said it about Dean, so it's true... but it's being used to defend Clark, so it can't be true...

25. The ego FEAR of DEAN and his supporters
They are now finally starting to understand how bad their candidate will be swept aside. The ONLY approach to take is that of the Shrub and repuke attack. Make up anything possible in hopes that something sticks.

Dean is a non stop LIAR. His polls # have shown signs of leveling. After Iowa and NH the real majority of America will start to speak out. Dean has only 1 option to play ( REPUKE POLITICS ), to destroy the good name of a man that has devoted his life to his country.

I've got a batch of "Deanie" friends, and while they tease me on occasion about being a "Clarkie", they also plan to support Clark if he gets the nomination - just as I'm planning to support Dean if he gets the nomination.

I do wish there was more civil discourse here at DU though. There seem to be people (on all sides) that are willing to do Rove and the RNC's dirty work for them. Which is a shame, because it takes away from the main goal - getting the unelected fraud out of the White House.

53. Agree Clark poses a serious threat because of the 'stop Dean' mentality
Clark was rolled out in front of Dean by the Clinton/DLC group and to ignore this is absurd. You won't see full page ads in The New York Times attesting to this and there will be no public proclamations but here it is. 'It just happened' is always the public policy.

As incredible as it sounds the 'also-rans' wouldn't mind seeing a Bush/Clark 56/44 election as long as Howard goes down. It's an affront to the Kerry/Gep/Lieb Club that Dean could crush them like this and it means they get an 'F' in their chosen career. Sorry folks that's the way it is.

Dean '04...

P.S. Dean can't be stopped.

Dean and his supporters are THREATENED by Clark, just like the mindless wonder is....yesterday and today's polls just made it worse. Hence, all the Clark bashing threads.

60. Clark's military creds shattered by Top Military Brass
Former Joint Chief of Staff Hugh Shelton said Clark was fired for reasons of "character and integrity". Shelton is not a hard-core Republican, and may even be a Democrat according to some accounts. How would it look for the former Joint Chief of Staff in the military (the highest ranking member in the military) to characterize Clark this way throughout the campaign? Clinton's Defense Secretary Cohen also thought poorly of Clark. Clark will be portrayed by Rove and Co. as an "internationalist" who fought for NATO and is distrusted by the one military that counts- the US military. I would not put much stock in Clark getting mileage out of his military career.

Never succumb to the fear of the mob when the truth scares them and they don't know what to do with it--other than bury it.

And speaking of fear, they are the ones who need a bigger daddy protector symbol to represent their own fears.

72. Thanks Hawkeye...
...A Clark nomination virtually guarantees bush another term. Given the choice between a real rethug and rethug lite, they'll vote for the real rethug every time. Democrats apparently still haven't learned the lesson of 2002.

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.
