Some disappointment on Election night.
I'd gotten a ticket for an evening watching the election returns with Dan Rather. Last night, I got this email:
"Due to production limitations Dan Rather will be unable to host our “Election Night” program on November 4th 2008.

In light of this news, David A. Andelman will moderate our panel discussion with top analysts and experts from the World Policy Journal from 8-9pm. Following the discussion watch the returns live on a big screen. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Panelists include:

David A. Andelman, veteran New York Times and CBS News correspondent and editor of the World Policy Journal; Stephen Schlesinger, editor of his father’s memoirs and longtime global advisor to Governor Mario Cuomo; Nina Khrushcheva of the New School and great granddaughter of Nikita Khrushchev; Jack Devine, veteran head of the clandestine services of the CIA; and from Washington, Edward Luttwak, controversial senior fellow of the Center for Strategic and International Studies."

I also got a postcard saying it will be Rather on HDNet on the big screen but I'm still a bit pissed. They will give me a refund if I want, but should I go anyway?

1. awww .... why not.
you got some real party animals on the panel. :)

Seriously, is there someplace else that would be more fun, like joining a bunch of friends at a bar or someone's house to watch returns? If so, you gotta make a choice. Pundits or Beer?

2. I think my friends are kind of hunkered down.
4 years ago I went to Rocky's (a liberal bar) and went home in dire need of Prevecid. I had thought this was closer and that Rather would have the freedom to call it earlier if that was warranted.

I just realized I got an email from Ethical Culture promising election night there (free and watching on a big screen until 10pm). Maybe that would be better.

I'm not a beer drinker.
