"I like your shirt"... an Obama volunteer story
I just got home from volunteering at a call center for Obama in one of the reddest of red states, Oklahoma. I picked up my 65 year old mom, took her to lunch (such a good boy) at an Asian restaurant. I was proudly wearing my Vote NOV 4th OBAMA-BIDEN tshirt and our waitress, a very attractive young blonde said, "I like your shirt." I said, thanks and she said she was a registered republican but she was voting for Obama. I told her that was awesome (and immediately made a mental note to double her tip. By the way, I have received nothing but compliments every day since I have been wearing my shirt. I get a few sideways looks, but all the comments have been supportive.

I then went to my union hall to pick up some AFSCME t-shirts for volunteers at the center and drove to downtown Oklahoma City to the Volunteer Center (134 NW 13th for those who are interested). I then picked up a can of coffee, some creamer, sugar and cookies to go with the coffee pot I donated the day before.

There were several people there of several races, ages and socio-economic backgrounds. All were upbeat and focused on doing whatever they could to help Obama win. A steady stream of people came in the front doors of the small storefront setup to ask what they could do or to buy a button, bumper sticker or tshirt.

The media showed up and one of the coordinators did an interview with all the volunteers standing beside him chanting and cheering.

We then got back to work. I showed my mom how to call people and ask them our poll questions and I went to work scanning in the results. We couldn't stay too long today. Mom hasn't been feeling great and I had to go get my kiddos to take them trick or treating but we put in a couple of hours and donated some cookies and coffee to help the ones who followed us.

Please get out if you can and help. Volunteer to drive voters, make some calls, buy a shirt and wear it everyday in public (I wear mine from the Obama site every single day, and I wash it most days).
Bring some food to the campaign HQ. Do what you can. Don't get complacent. Don't take it for granted. Hope takes work and we need everyone to do something between now and election day to make this the epic ass whoopin' the republicans so sincerely deserve.

Keep Hope

3. I have gotten great comments wearing the shirt
One of my fellow volunteers said she was a little intimidated to wear hers since OK is so right wing. I shared a few stories and she said she would give it a try. I hope she does.
