Update on Cuyahoga County voting stats.... (Cleveland, Ohio)
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 06:05 PM by WCGreen
First of all, new executive directer Jane Platin has virtually changed the whole scope and feeling for the Board of Elections. I know her well from years gone by. We worked closely on a county wide election back in the mid 80's...

She is diligent and dedicated and I can't think of a better person to be running the show.

They added so many tools for voters and candidates that it's like the whole place went from 1975 to 2008 overnight.

I just checked the status of my absentee ballot on line and within seconds I found out when it was sent to me, when I returned it and that it was accepted as a legitimate ballot to be counted on Election Day. No worries.

Now for the updated status:

There are 1,111,967 registered voters in Cuyahoga County.

As of today, 34,676 voters have cast there ballots early. Of those, 21,193 were Dem's, 690 were reps. All the rest are Independents.

As of today, 160,289 voters have returned their absentee ballot to the BOE. Of that number, 94,292 are Dem's, 21,088 are rep and the rest are Ind.

There are still 108,815 absentee ballots that have not been returned as of today.

Adding requested and early voters, 303,780 voters, or 27.3% of those registered, have participated in early or absentee voting.

If you reduce that total registered to 85%, a wonderful turnout, that means a little over 32% of voters have participated in the early voting and absentee programs.

Dem's are far out pacing the republicans in voter turnout so far.

We could be talking about a 350k-400k margin for Obama from Cuyahoga County to help off set Southern Ohio.

It's looking really good for our side.

3. John McLame in Mentor, Ohio. Showcases Joe the Plumber...
Man, is this all McLame's got? A bald-headed crack-addict? I don't think people in Cleveland are dumb enough to fall for it... but then again... there are a lot of Fundys at his rally.

5. Yeah, we're talking Lake County again when we talk Mentor
and Lake County is Republican, sad to say. When you think of Cleveland, think of Lake County as this largely rural (although Mentor happens to be suburban) red dot chock-full of Republican mouth-breathers. Not everyone there is like that, but it's the majority.

9. That's near Painesville, no?
I remember that area from visiting relatives in my childhood ... The town of Ashtabula (sp?) also comes to mind.

10. WCGreen I have a question:
what % of registered voters voted in Cuyuga county voted in 2000 and 2004?

And out of those who voted in 2000 and 2004 what % of them voted absentee or early?

How do the numbers this year compare?

11. Well, in 2000 and 2004 there was very limited absentees and
early voting. You had to have a "legitimate" excuse. This is the first presidential election that anyone can apply for an absentee. The comparisons would be invalid.

The overall turnout in 2004 was about 76%.

In 2004, there were 687,260 votes cast in polling places. There were 85,212 absentees cast. The total number of registered voters was 1,007,187.

In 2000, there were 590,473 votes cast in polling places and 70,813 absentees cast. There was no easy way to get to the number of total registered voters...

13. Wow. Thanks.
So these look like relatively good numbers this year. Not as crazy as NC and FL and GA, but still good.
