McCain seeks to revive Rezko as campaign issue
By CHRISTOPHER WILLS – 8 minutes ago

CHICAGO (AP) — Trailing as Election Day nears, Republican John McCain and his allies are using "robo-calls" and fliers to revive the issue of Barack Obama's ties to a convicted felon, claiming the Democrat hasn't fully explained the relationship.

"Obama needs to come clean on this deal before the election so that the voters can judge whether Obama received monetary benefits," says an automated phone call by McCain's campaign about a financial transaction between Illinois Sen. Obama and Antoin "Tony" Rezko.

Mailers to voters in swing states make similar claims, and a conservative group filed an ethics complaint Thursday with the Senate.

But McCain offers no evidence of wrongdoing and raises no new allegations. Instead, he and his supporters claim Obama hasn't been forthcoming about his involvement with Rezko.

1. Oh, it gets 'better':
Conservative Group Files Ethics Complaint Against Obama
By Jonathan Allen and David Nather, CQ Staff

A leading conservative group filed a Senate Ethics Committee complaint Thursday against Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama , saying the Illinois senator accepted and failed to properly disclose “gifts” from Chicago land deals, a charge that implicitly invokes this week’s federal conviction of Sen. Ted Stevens for filing misleading personal disclosure forms.

But the ethics panel, which does not discuss its deliberations publicly, is under no obligation to look into the matter and certainly will not act before Tuesday’s election, which the filing is clearly intended to influence.

The complaint, submitted by the American Conservative Union, alleges that Obama received and failed to report gifts from Antoin “Tony” Rezko, a Chicago developer and onetime Obama political benefactor who has since been convicted of federal fraud and money-laundering, crimes in a pair of land deals involving adjacent properties purchased by Obama and Rezko’s wife, Rita Rezko.

Obama bought his $1.65 million home from a seller who was eager to sell the property and an adjacent vacant lot at the same time. Obama paid $300,000 less than an original asking price for a home he has said was initially overvalued by the seller, while Rita Rezko paid $625,000 for the adjoining lot — an amount equal to the highest previous offer, according to news accounts of the transactions.

The offer the seller accepted from Obama was the third in a series of increasing offers.

3. These *ssholes never quit. I am not one for profanity, but the vile nature of
this "ethics complaint" has left me speechless.

11. What do these people want?
He came completely clean about the history with Rezko to the Tribune, and he did pay more then the previous two bidders.

This is as bullshit as Whitewater.

12. I think this is their 'hail mary' pass; if this is their contention, why
wait until 5 days prior to the election to voice it? They got nothing; it's yet another distraction.

13. Oh, of course.
But every investigation so far has found nothing. Something would have come up by now if there was anything.

Do these people really believe there's more to this?

17. It's beyond the kitchen sink. They were at that stage back in mid-summer.
I was commenting back then that McCain was campaigning like George HW Bush did against Clinton in the last couple of weeks of his campaign, resorting to all kinds of name-calling and saying anything, hoping it sticks.

2. REZKO'S BUSH FUNDRAISER
Rezko did more for George W. Bush than for any particular Democrat - $3.8 million in one Bush fundraiser

Rezko also works both sides of the political fence. He co-chaired a megamillion-dollar fund-raiser for President Bush in 2003 and raised funds for former Republican Gov. Jim Edgar

http://www.suntimes.com/news/sneed/93087,CST-NWS-sneed12

Rezko is not a Democrat; he's an equal opportunity profiteer. He supported President George Bush and attended a Christmas party at the White House in December 2003, at the same time that he was a top fundraiser for Obama's US Senate campaign.

Rezko co-hosted a $3.8 million Chicago fundraiser for Bush in 2003, and on December 9, 2003, he donated $4,000 to Bush, as a "self-employed businessman," and gave another $2,000 on December 19, 2003, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

6. Got a pamphlet in the mail today
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 06:29 PM by DearAbby
From the state Republican committee, all of it about Rezko....Front says..."WHO IS BARACK OBAMA? with words in the background...Political Rewards. Rezko, Kickbacks, land deals, Fraud.

On the back says:

Obama has used the hard-earned money of America's taxpayers to pay his cronies with political favors. this with a picture of Rezko next to it.

Inside the pamphlet:

OBAMA AND HIS FRIENDS. Shows photo of Obama and Rezko laughing together in the upper right hand corner.
below that photo is a picture of Obama's house in Chicago.

it then reads:

Do you know the real story? During his time as a career politician, Barack Obama has used his office to benefit his family and reward his friends with political favors.

Tony Rezko: (this is highlighted in yellow)Rezko convicted just this year on federal charges of fraud for receiving kickbacks in a land deal has ben an Obama friend and fundraiser for nearly 20 years..(This next to a sinister looking Rezko with huge red bar lettering CONVICTED under it.)

What has Obama done for Rezko?

From Chicago Sun times
dated 6/13/07 Obama secured a $14 million land deal for Rezko and then lied about it.

What has Rezko done for Obama?

Again a news clipping this one the Chicago Tribune 11/1/06

Rezko helped Obama buy his 1.65 Million dollar home in Chicago by purchasing the vacant lot next door.

the pamphlet ends with White spooky lettering over black background:

Barack Obama. Not who you think he is.

16. I don't know. Personally, I rarely read any of those mailings regardless of
which candidate sends them out. I regularly get at LEAST 6 a day between federal, state and local elections. I'll bet a lot of people are like me in that they toss them with the rest of their junk mail.
