David Gregory gave Rachel one of her starts because he played hooky.

David Gregory played hooky from his show 'the race to the white house'
because his bosses were in China. He was to appear on The Daily Show
that evening and took the day off because he wanted to be rested
and had Rachel fill in at the last moment.

Rachel took over and The bosses saw then that she was completely capable after
watching the tape and were pissed at Gregory for taking off without telling them.

That evening Jon Stewart schooled Gregory.
