My sister just made me cry (or, one more reason why it's so important that we elect Obama).
I just got this email from her:

"You did watch Obama’s infomercial, right? It had a strange effect on me – it made me extremely emotional and I just started crying toward the end, not because it was sad but because I’ve BEEN so sad about the state of the country, and I see the possibility for it to get better and I’m afraid the republicans are going to do something to screw us over and he might not win and I don’t know what I’ll do. I honestly believe if McCain is elected I will be in a wheelchair in five years or sooner because I won’t be able to afford healthcare of the $4000 infusions I need every eight weeks."

She has rheumatoid arthritis--she's 39 and has already had 3 major joint replacement surgeries--and the woman on the show last night set me off bawling when I saw her twisted hands. My sister's are just beginning to look like that.

We're both terrified of what will happen to her healthcare if McCain is elected.

VOTE!!!

1. Six-word summary: America's hurting. Obama cares. McCain doesn't.
It's honestly just that simple, IMHO.

3. I think that was part of the genius that film..Everyone one of us could be anyone

of the folks that were portrayed there. Virtually everyone could find SOMEONE in that film with whom to identify.
It was brilliant...

7. You are so right...
We either are, could be, or know someone who was represented in that film. He made it personal, something McCain is unable to do.

I don't have health care right now and I need Obama to win...It feels weird for me to say this but it is a matter of life and death for me...plus, I have a nephew in Iraq and I want him home and not taking commands from someone who is looking for the next war to get involved in...Please Dear GOD let Obama win on Tuesday night!

6. I had a similar response.
Seeing how far this country has fallen, how middle-class quality of life has gone to hell... the ad tapped into personal anxieties as well as profound sadness for our country.

8. That describes my reaction, too.
I've never been this emotional about an election before (even counting 2000 and 2004). I have 8 years of anger, outrage and sadness built up--and I expect to weep uncontrollably no matter what happens on Tuesday.

9. Don't worry, Shakespeare. The change we are feeling is divine
and its coming because as a species our yearning is taking form. Barack just is the catalyst for this moment and your sister will be better because science and medicine will find a cure for her, I believe it. Just hang on, my dear. Take it from an old gal that this world is changing and the feeling you have is God whispering for us to be ready.
