2. fiscal conservatives... and arguably the most reputable

It's a UK mag that publishes articles anonymously and it's mostly commentary. As fiscal conservatives, it's more "classical liberalism" than american stuff. They do not believe in laissez faire or trickle down economics.

They tend to be very moderate on social issues and generally pragmatic. Sometmies they are very progressive, in fact.

They tend to look at american social conservatism and the neocons with serious doubt.

Look at their history of endorsements:

2008: obama
2004: kerry
2000: bush
1996: dole
1992: clinton
1988: no endorsement
1984: no endorsement
1980: reagan

3. Some of my RW colleagues
seem to be starting to get more comfortable (or at least, more accepting) of the prospect of an Obama presidency, thanks to these endorsements. The reasoning seems to be, since Obama has been endorsed by the Financial Times and the Economist, both of which are respectable, economically conservative publications, he can't be *that* bad.

5. Sweet !!!!
I love the Economist, though I don't always agree with their viewpoint. However, their bias is never hidden and they are certainly fair to everyone, if nothing else.

Also, hands down some of the best international reporting occurs in that magazine.
