3. Excuse me, but some people lack the sarcasm gene.
Smileys help the less fortunate among us to understand the true meaning of a poster's intent.

:sarcasm:

7. When you use the sarcasm smily after explaining its use, you negate your explanation.
Also, if someone is so dense they need to be told "this is sarcasm," they don't really deserve to know.

4. Especially online, sarcasm doesn't always come off as such.
Without intonation, it's often difficult to pick up on some people's sarcasm, particularly when you don't know the person. Also, in my opinion, the best sarcasm is the type that you REALLY can't tell without some other cue - facial expression, knowing the person well, tone of voice, whatever.

Plus, a lot of people REALLY suck at trying to be sarcastic, quite frankly. Unless you're very well known around here - like Underpants maybe - you're safer just tossing it in.

9. You're right--it's more difficult to pull off. That doesn't mean slow it down.
It just means you need to control your sarcasm more carefully. After all, you wouldn't put a speed limit on the Indy 500 track would you?

12. Alright, let's put all of the shittiest drivers you've ever encountered on the oval in Indy.
That's kind of like DU, and the sarcasm tag is our helmet and seat belt. It might not save us every time, it might be damned uncomfortable, but holy fucking god I wouldn't want to drive on that oval without them!

11. I never use the damn thing.
I really don't care if people get the sarcasm or not. In fact, it's usually more fun when they don't get it.

14. SARCASM isn't really sarcasm
its just another way to say I love you and I care about you. I know when my friends tease me they are really saying they care about me because why would they bother spending the time to tease?

Teasing is another form of affection and sarcasm falls in that category so when someone uses :sarcasm: they really are saying I :loveya:

13. The "You forgot
to add the sarcasm tag people" sends me into a fit of laughter... Are there that many humorless geeks here? Why, the answer is found in all my sarcastic posts in which I refuse to use the sarcasm smiley.

19. Problem is there is nothing you can write in sarcasm with which someone does not truly agree.

We laughed at Bunker.
Archie had laugh track. Limbaugh?
Has none so they cheer.

21. But what if the person was serious and you thought they were sarcastic?
Say you just assumed they were being ironic, only to discover they were dead serious? It happens.
