said one nation under God. I thought it was Eisenhower. This was his way of justifying Dole's ad in NC against Hagan.
On MSNBC with Chuck Todd.

1. What an IDIOT. "Under God" was added to the pledge.. not the constitution
and was the pledge really written by the Founding Fathers? I think not!!

3. The Declaration of Independence says "Nature's God"...
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 01:10 PM by IanDB1
... which is a phrase that Deists used to describe their idea of a god who does not perform miracles, and neither requires, nor answers, prayers.

6. The Pledge of Allegiance wasn't even written until 1892
by a (socialist) Methodist minister. "Under God" was added in 1954 by the McCarthy era Congress, and signed into law by Eisenhower on Flag day 1954. The word "God" appears nowhere in the Constitution.

7. IIRC, Ensign was a dentist before Congress.
Mom used to roll her eyes when she saw his campaign commercials -- he was considered a real numbnuts locally.

9. because it works for the ill-informed, or the "don't want to be informed because
book-larnin' is for faggoty pansies ..."

If they only knew that the original pledge was written by a Socialist ...

10. it's time
for people running for office need to take a test. We couldn't get out of 8th grade with out taking a 36 page test which included a heavy dose of American History and Civics.

13. When a foreign national wishes to become a Naturalized American
Citizen, he/ she is required to pass a thorough examination of extensive knowledge of American civics knowledge, among other things.

It seems only fair to me that ALL American citizens should ne required to complete that same .test in order to be deemed "CITIZENS!!!!

12. I was in grade school when it was changed back in the 1950's. I don't remember
hearing any discussion about it or any objection to it at the time so I can't say whether it was really controversial at the time or not. It just wasn't a big deal, as I recall.

15. We said it at the Biden rally last week. A friend said that I say it differently.
I just didn't add the "under God". I remember how the teachers told us it had been changed, I was in maybe 1st grade, maybe 2nd. I'd just gotten the first way memorized. I remember thinking how dumb that was, like what was the point. I didn't know about McCarthy et al. I like to leave it out, it's more authentic.
