Joe the Plumber vs. Spartacus

Remember the movie? The Romans wanted to put down a revolution of slaves, and they sought the ringleader, Spartacus. And every one of the slaves stood up and said, "I am Spartacus." "I am Spartacus."

They were all willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their freedom.

On the other hand, we have Republican ads with people saying "I'm Joe the Plumber." "I'm Joe the Plumber."

All of them are basically saying, "I don't want my money going to shiftless, lazy Negroes like Obama." In private, I'm sure they wouldn't use the word "Negro."

Identifying with a hero and a visionary, versus identifying with a self-centered, uncharitable egotist. I wonder if any Republicans ever thought this thing through before starting this campaign.
