I ALMOST Feel Sorry for McCain : Beyond Pathetic
Before you go and flame me hear me out...

When you watch the "Where's Joe" video, and some other very recent footage of McCain, you are watching the collapse of a ONCE fine, proud, and heroic American. Sadly, many years ago, McCain sold his soul, and that heroic man is no more. All that is left is a husk of a man who has spent his whole life looking for a way to out-rank daddy. When he failed to do it in the military, he eyed the role of CIC, that would make daddy proud...

But I digress, when I watched him today, I saw a man who really just wants to go home... He knows he has lost, and he knows his "father issues" will now forever go unanswered. You watch him as he goes through the motions, because he has to keep acting until the curtain falls... but I am telling you, no one wants this over more than McCain. He is tired, he is defeated, and he just wants to retreat to his house (not sure what one) and lick his wounds... he wants to breath, yell, scream, and cry...

The side of me that is compassionate and has feeling for people (the democrat part of me), I almost feel sorry for the guy, do not get me wrong, I am not forgetting who he is. but... I can not image what it is like to have to stand up there and "preform" when you know your done...

Just go home John, we will welcome you back into the Senate.. and in a few years you can retire, and become a lobbiest.. don't worry, you will never out rank daddy, but you will always be richer than most of us... just go home and enjoy the top .1% of the world...

1. I'm reserving all my pity for November 5th.
I do have some for him but none of it come out until then.

For the f***stick fundie Palin and the assclowns running his campaign...not one goddamn iota of pity now or ever.

18. They better recognize that SHE is part of the problem with their party.
Getting rid of the fundie value voters, telling the Neocons that "IT DOESN'T WORK", and moving away from the far right so we can get back to a regular lefy would be delightful.

If things go as they should on the 4th, I'm looking forward to them fixing their broken ass party.

26. That still forces us to the Right until they can outbreed and/or "convert" the rest of us
Both thoughts that scare the shit out of me.

2. But what does he have to look forward to
By his own doing, he's tarnished his reputation and compromised every value he once claimed to have. He will go back to the Senate, but it'll be a long time before people forget the John McCain who reared his ugly face in this election.

3. Oh I agree - but I still feel for him. Even if it is of his own making...
Look, I have made decisions that I wish I did not... we all do. I just feel for him as a human

4. He sold out nearly everything he ever believed in, by choice.
Pretty hard to feel sorry for him, that being the case.

6. I do not disagree, but I still see a man in huge distress inside. He knows he sold out
and he wants to flee... fight or flight... he is done with the fight.

16. I'm sure he's not happy with himself. On that, we can agree.
He did, however, have a choice. Hiring the same people who smeared him in 2000 and using them in the same fashion was deplorable.

5. Did you see video of him going off on Larry King?
he's really lost his marbles. I think you're correct, he looks tired and defeated. There's no coherence at all to the campaign, it's a shambles.

7. I'm thinking that the "once proud man"
is a myth. He isn't what I thought he was. I think the real McCain is just showing himself.
What he is showing is vile.

10. For the record, he had a chance to get out of POW first, said no. That means something to me
I am a vet, so I understand at SOME level that that is a very selfless act... I am sure that it is the only one he ever did, and I am not so sure it was not to lead up to this moment...

13. Rolling Stone had an interesting article about that.
It basically made the same assertion - that the John McCain of the past couple decades was a fabrication, and that what we're seeing now is the "real" McCain.

9. We just had 8 years
We just had 8 years of one jackass with "daddy" issues ruin this country, we don't need another. I despise the vibe that he puts out the he "deserves" to be president. Yes go home...retire.

12. I envy your compassion. I only hope he has MANY years left to suffer with the pain and humiliation
of losing this election and is weighed down everyday with the regret and remorse of how he SHOULD have conducted his campaign and his life.

I just don't. I never get the whole feeling sorry for people like Mccain or Bush or Ashley Todd. I look at a society whose members barely muster sympathy for the poor or disenfranchised or elderly but feel bad for a McCain. He gave it his shot; he's going to lose. he's a bum. Adios. Go play golf at your exclusive country club next to one of your dozen homes in exclusive gated communities. Bring the troops home. I feel sorry for them.

23. I Feel the Same Way
He's just not a good candidate and is being outsmarted around every turn. He will be surrounded by wolves upon losing next Tuesday, and they're already gathering. He has alienated Democrats, turned off independents, and will become reviled by Republicans for losing in a landslide. The future is not great for McCain.

No such thing now and ever on his part. He's always been a warmaniac - a dangerous one along with his cousin Lieberman.

It's hard to feel compassion for a man who is running around telling outright lies to his fellow Americans in order to win a prize. That's just plain wrong.

I just can not imagine myself in the same position. He must be just ripping himself apart on the inside..

30. Don't feel sorry for him. He has been the recipient of cultural capital
his entire life. The son of an admiral, the grandson of an admiral finishing 5th from the bottom

of his class. His 2nd wife is the only child of a very wealthy man who funded his

political aspirations. Yeah, yeah, he spent 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton. Not to

belittle that, but he is the only prisoner of war I've read about who brings it up

all the time. Most servicemen do not like to talk about those things with civilians.

I admired him in 2000, but in 2008 he has really shown his ass. F*ck him.
