McCain, Obama to make 'Monday Night Football' appearances By Michael Hiestand, USA TODAY The forum for what will likely be the last face-off between Barack Obama and John McCain: ESPN's Monday Night Football.
And the interviewer for taped segments that will likely air at about 10:15 p.m. ET: Chris Berman.
The footage will appear at halftime of the election-eve MNF. Berman will be in ESPN's Bristol, Conn., headquarters where he will have conducted a one-on-one interview with each presidential candidate via satellite earlier in the day.
MNF is sometimes the most-watched TV programming on Monday nights, and usually the night's most-watched show for male viewers, and has produced nine of the 10 biggest cable TV audiences ever.
Monday's game will likely draw big viewership in two hotly-contested states given the teams playing — the Washington Redskins, highly-popular in Northern Virginia, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. ESPN had lobbied the NFL to get a game in the nation's capital on the night before Election Day.
And, ESPN plans to alter its onscreen news graphics on all of its TV channels as results roll in Tuesday night. It will have news alerts when ABC News projects winners in given states — as well as when the overall winner is projected.
