1. No, but here's a nice diary from DKos.

After a few minutes, someone asked the bartender to turn up the sound, which he did.

And then the place got quiet. This is a bar-full of crazy Philly phans, chomping at the bit for the ball game to start. And the place got quiet to listen to "the ad". People were actually listening and watching.

When it was done, people applauded. Yes. Applauded a political ad.

The game coverage came on; and during the first commercial break, a McCain attack ad came on. The reaction was mainly shaking of heads.

:)

7. That attack ad right after such a positive message was another blunder by McFalin
It really is a pathetic campaign they're running.

4. Maybe its purpose was to fire up the base
The kool-aid drinkers will refuse to watch it. The independents leaning toward Obama might have that choice solidified.

DU makes too much drama about each event.

9. I think the base doesn't need firing up
it is the undecided or as of yet unconvinced (but convincable) voters he was going for. Don't underestimate the power of these ads-- you can thank Ross Perot's 30 minute ad; his charts and pointer, "the large sucking sound" quote, etc. in part for helping elect Bill Clinton.

12. Would independents have heard about it and watched it?
I hadn't thought about it, but was it covered enough in the media to get people to know when it was on? We knew but we are the hardcore supporters.

13. My husband had no idea it was going to be on. He voted for Obama last
weekend, and certainly hears me rant and rave enough, but still was asking me "What is this?"

He enjoyed it, by the way.

14. oh yes... anyone who has a tv and watches it would have known or found it.
It was also mentioned on every news broadcast yesterday. I am guessing many millions watched-- I hope it changed some minds.

6. Two Ohio new votes in the bag for Obama
Background first. My sister and her husband were registered Republicans until the primary this year here in Ohio when they went for Obama. They have even donated money to his campaign. Their daughter lives down near Cinncinati where their representatives are Mean Jean Schmidt and Banour. My sister has not really tried to push Obama too hard, just tells them bits of information. Nieces husband has a small business (22 people) and niece has her own business where she is CPA for other local businesses. Nieces husband has Mother who emails them all the Republican garbage about Obama. Anyway last night niece and her husband watched the Obama 30 minute special. Afterwards she called my sister and said "we both thought Obama was amazing!" So my sister told her, with things the way they are you should 'take a chance on change for the sake of your four boys future". And they agreed and are going to vote for Obama.

10. Yes - the receptionist at my company
She's been very torn about who to vote for. She has absolutely no party loyalty - she's a true independent. She knows I'm a big Obama supporter and the first thing she told me this morning was that she loved the piece and the last 3 minutes (the live part) gave her goosebumps. She's voting for Obama.

22. for me...
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 09:55 AM by npincus
I found myself really touched by the stories of the people he presented, probably because it taps into so many of my own personal anxieties and the overall view how far the AVERAGE American standard-of-living has fallen, and what a sorry state this country is in. So much sadness, so much anxiety. I teared up. Particularly touching to me was the old couple who had paid off their home, but the old man had to pull equity from his house for his wife's medications and work at Walmart to pay off the loans. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN AMERICA.

25. I agree with that. Watching it after hearing it the first time, 1st part was
interesting but rather informercially. Then came the last 3 minutes and it was wonderful. Very much history in the making.

11. Has there been any polling on the ad? I have no idea how people felt about it...
...other than those who already support Obama. At the diner I went to for breakfast today everyone was talking about the Philly's winning the series.

17. yeah, you would think there might have been a focus group...
waiting for the drip, drip, drip of news on that.

I know it was successful because Joe S. looked like someone dropped a turd in his punchbowl this morning... he looked almost reluctant to broach the topic.

24. Two South Indies I know are.
Quickly... One from LA the other from GA. All of us go back a long ways. Both are actually along Libertarian lines than anything else. Ones 'tude was almost guilty for not supporting Obama until last night, the other was of a grudging but admiring tone (he's a bit more militant about his views though). The last few minutes swung them both and both essentially admitted they same thing to me.... They hadnt seen him really speak before (other than the MSM bites), they felt the hope and the inspiration that so many of us know all about. What they were most impressed with was the over all roll out, the techno slickness of it all. Leave it to undecided Linux people to finally decide based on that! :D
