I want to apologize for last night
If you didn't see my now deleted posts last night before Obama's 1/2 hour commercial, then you missed it :D

I rarely drink any more. Buuuut, I have been extremely stressed during this campaign and I really needed to let off some steam :argh:, so I had a couple shots of brandy with a beer chaser :toast:. It worked as expected

I lost my inhibition and posted some simple minded "thoughts" on the one-celled organisms known as JT Plumber and S.Palin. I used language that is offensive and I apologize to those who were offended by it. The alcohol and the heat of the moment got the best of me. :silly: I promise to use appropriate language next time I attack those vicious scumbags. ;)

PS - I am NOT sorry about my angry sentiments toward JTPlumb & Sarah Putz! :puke:

PPS - I will selfishly kick this thread periodically so that it is seen by my fellow DUers who I may have offended.

:grouphug:

So let's carry on and win this campaign!

:yourock:

4. I don't drink. bc I get a hangover before I ever get happy. Same thing with pot. So, I do not
abstain because of convictions, but because my body immediately punishes me for trying to get a hit of happy the quick way. So, I have spent a lot of time at parties among people who started sober, but started getting high on something or other fairly quickly. Most of all, they're just much more boring drunk than they are sober, but they think the opposite is so. Sigh.

Guys, if you want to impress anyone with your wit or humor or the power of your incisive thoughts, just say no. You'll soon see what I mean.

I second the good on you for apologizing. Takes a very big person to admit something and try to make amends. And, posting while drunk is certainly not the worst thing you can do. So much better than driving drunk.

So, while I did not see your posts, I forgive you. Now, forgive yourself too, k?

On the other hand, if you posted anything bad about me, up yours. (j/k)

You dont care how you made the OP feel, you just pronounced your own armchair diagnosis bases upon your own personal experiences that you cant seem to get past.

Perhaps instead of assuming that everyone who has a little too much too drink and makes a mistake is exactly like your father or mother, you should take a complete stranger's apology at face value instead of coming down on him an an effort to vent your own anger and bitterness at your own experiences.

Since we're doing armchair analysis I figured I could chime in.

19. Nope, I grew up as the oldest of six kids in a one parent household
where that one parent was a bad drunk. It's why I would never drink, and hate drunks and don't suffer their crap.

It's why I listen to your crap yesterday and today and have a good understanding of who, why and where your excuse is lame.

I have zero against you, and I am not slamming you any more then giving you blunt assessment of what I think based on experience.

Get help. We can't help you with answers to a, "Oh shit, I was drunk, poor me," thread from you. You have to help yourself here.

I find the behavior of drunks intolerable, and they always think they are being picked on, and always feel sorry for themselves.

33. Thanks for your opinion, but I don't buy it.
Besides, this is an opinion concerning behavior that I am quite familiar with having posted on many forums since the mid 1990s. Drunk interlocutors are always repeat offenders, and should find people with whom they can resonate with in real time, not impose themselves on a forum in that state.

I am not attacking this person, I am attacking the behavior. Thanks for sharing, but I will continue to loathe the behavior.

It is possible to get drunk and NOT be an alcoholic. Your armchair diagnosis is a tad hasty.

Perhaps you need to get a bit of help since you grew up with an alcoholic parent?

46. Perhaps I am a member of such a 12 step group,
But if you are familiar with them, you know one is supposed to keep that particular bit of information to oneself.

In any event, yes, the groups that handle the problems of codependency are really good and very worthwhile. In an alcoholic family, everyone is sick, not just the alcoholic.

I fully acknowledge an affliction from my experience. You can't be from my background and not have this be the case.

As far as alcohol goes, I do not drink, and I get far far away from anyone doing so. It is better for them, and me both.

59. I am surprised this generated so much consternation
but then again, I already knew I did not particularly resonate well with this virtual community's culture. I signed on in 2001, and I have finally reached approx. 1k posts.

I prefer posting on another forum, but it developed a strong anti-Obama bend to it, so in a sense I am a refugee. I have been working on the Obama campaign, and just don't have time for conservative posters I normally love talking to, but have grown too mean this season to even be good opponents for the full body contact sort of political posting I prefer to do.

I have no plans to post mere much after the election, so nobody need take deep umbrage to me. I am who I am and do not plan to change.

In any event, thanks for the post, and have a great Halloween on Friday.

64. I'm am genuinely sorry you had to grow up in that environment
I am not unfamiliar with that environment as I grew up in the inner city myself and witnessed many alcoholics - including a now deceased very close friend of mine. :(

I must state though that your analysis of me is completely wrong - I really rarely drink (once a month maybe?) due to my lungs/sinuses being intolerant of the alcohol. I actually wouldn't mind being able to have a drink more often, but I simply can't any longer. Also, even though I have nearly 10,000 posts, I rarely start original posts - almost never of the rambunctious nature of those yesterday. Perhaps you should apologize to me for completely misjudging me - it's very insulting to me that you have attacked me in the first and only thread I've ever started to apologize for my bad behavior.

Will you admit your mistake?

immediate family UNDERSTANDS the true (and earned) resentments that they foment.

I don't know if the OP has an Alcohol Abuse problem that is interfering with his functioning with regard to life's success, but hell, if you apologize WITHIN A FORUM, for whatever reason ---> you also have to be willing to take a little flack. The OP's an adult, I'm sure he can handle it.

Just my 2 cents.

47. I hope it wasn't one of those gay slurs that are all too common on DU
these days, but you apologized and I think most people accept it.

we're a rare breed around here, but I'm human too!! I didn't see what you said, but I can guarantee that I've said worse..sober. I hope those you offended accept your apology...it's only human.

68. I can't fathom any language bad enough to offer offense regarding...
...the names you mentioned.

Sorry I missed the fun! :hi:

Of course, you may be offering up a little :sarcasm:

71. You're forgiven hon... so forgive yourself and move on!
We all make mistakes... the trick is learning not to repeat them from the experience!
Take care and don't let this get you down...
It was very courageous of you to apologize tho...
Now let's forget about it and get on with winning this campaign!
