Am I wrong to start respecting Ed Rollins a little bit?

He just said this on CNN-HN:

"Elizabeth Dole has done something despicable with this ad about Hagan. She should be ashamed of herself."

I couldn't believe Ed Rollins said this.

Holy. F-ing. Shit.

1. No, not wrong.
People CAN change, and should be recognized when they move from bad to good!

2. Rollins & Gergan are old school repubs...
...i.e. pre-Atwater/Rove. They still have a shred of dignity.

3. He just sees the writing on the wall for the Republicans.
Although I do think he's more of a "traditional" Reagan conservative and doesn't like how the Bushies have ruined the GOP label.

Earlier today, when CNN published their new Electoral Vote stuff, Ed Rollins commented how the new polling results, among suburban voters, was devastating for McCain and how he doesn't see how McCain can make it up in just 5 days.

4. One of the very few GOP operatives that I will pay much attention to... sometimes he
can detach from spin and give an honest and spot on practical opinion.

5. Ro;;ins is one of the OLD and reasonably respectable Pubs. There
are very few of them left. He's also severly criticized the McNuts campaign for being inept and flat out stupid.

6. Don't buy into his glimmers of clarity because he's a ultra-conservative at heart.
Fiscal ultra-conservative, i.e., a la Scrooge.

9. So what could possibly piss off an ultra conservative scrooge?
A grifter VP and a delusional tax dodging Plumber. Talk to any Republican you know that made it to upper management and they will tell you, albeit sometimes indirectly, that they don't like Sarah or Joe. Those two are the poster children for every high maintenance/low output employees. Always looking for a shortcut, always bad mouthing coworkers, always dropping in to say how great they are while sticking knives in peoples backs.

12. True, but they give themselves too much credit and do not believe in "the public good"
... some ultra conservatives can lull you in until you realize that their fiscally conservative philosophy would turn the USA into one big corrupt "Barter Town."

7. Rollins is a very truthful Rethug. He and Gergen are defiantly not from Rove's school
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 11:59 PM by Jennicut
McLame could have been like this but chose to use the same people who slandered him in 2000 for his campaign this year. Rollins is definitely on the side of the Rethugs but we have big parties and just because you believe in lower taxes/small government does not mean you believe in ugly attacks and disgusting politics. It just shocks us because most Rethugs have adopted the ugly, untruthful Faux news way.

8. He is one of the good rethugs.
For the most part, I have always respected him. That's not the first time he's called a rethug on a dirty campaign.

10. Some day I hope that ad won't be an insult.
As an atheist, I'm depressed that this ad is seen as "insulting" to Hagan.

Don't get me wrong, I recognize the reality of the situation; a large majority of Americans are so religious they reflexively distrust, and discriminate against, the non-religious. They hate and fear me.

I get it.

I just don't like it.

The same reason saying Obama is a muslin is insulting to many of us. Its because its a bald face horrible lie.

13. Sensing that old line repugs of the Reagan era are repulsed by ugly
desperate campaigning in 2008.

That's why so many of them have actually attacked people like wolf killah from wassilah...they know this is short term gain, inflamming a deranged base and bye bye to old foreign policy, small govt, low intervention overseas, conservatives. too bad, their ideas are played out and nothing new has replaced them...trickle down demise blows?
