OMG OMG OMG! Obama mentioned my school!!!!
We're the school that got all our kids accepted to college! Mapleton!

I'm going to hyperventilate . . .

Maybe this can help our bond election pass finally!

Thank you Obama!

12. Yes, up in Thornton.
Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts. The school director, Mike Johnston, is one of Obama's education advisors.

15. Ha! I squeaked by somehow.
But seriously, we have a great Postsecondary Options program here that works with every kid to get them through the testing, application process, scholarship and financial aid apps, college visits, supplemental coursework, etc. etc. Most of the kids have no one in the family who has ever been to college, so all this is utterly foreign to them.

18. The Republican plan would be to de-fund the school
so all the kids with the means could evacuate to private school on government vouchers, leaving a rotting shell of a building, a bunch of poor kids, and a playing field.

20. They've been trying to do just that for years.
We've suffered under Repub admins for years here in Colo. Very pro-voucher and charter school - white-flight charter school, not the innovative, at-risk models in other states. It's disgusting. We even had a Repub commissioner of education who never missed a beat to bash public schools.

But that's all changed. Dem governor, Dem legislature, and now a Democratic President!

21. I taught at an urban charter school.
I guess you could say it was innovative, but they took Title I and Title XX money and didn't deliver. Class sizes were up to code (fire code). The only way a for-profit company can make a profit in education is to cut corners.

If we invested in public schools, nobody would stand for these other scams.

We are going on interim #2.

Still threatening us with a state takeover. I am ready to let them bring it on, I am so sick of the damn threat.

Home sick today.

Glad I saw this about your school. That really is terrific.
