He can gross about $120,000 from full time billings for one good plumber. The salary and associated costs for that plumber will be $50,000. Other costs of running the business, such as the truck for that plumber, will cost another $30K to $50K a year. If he has more than eight plumbers in the field, he might be making $250,000 per year.

While we're at it, let's knock down Palin's "he'll have more money left under McCain's plan, so he can hire more employees." The costs of hiring other employees are already deductible, and reduce income. The $250,000 number Obama uses is not GROSS receipts. It's INCOME, as that term is defined by the IRS. Anyone who thinks adding a three percent annual tax on incomes above $250,000 a year will stop small businesses from adding jobs is nuts!

In fact, each of his plumbers working for him as employees will get a nice tax cut from Obama's plan, and that tax cut will be just like a raise to those employees. When employees get to keep more of their check, they need a raise less often.
