Are we out of time for an "October Surprise"?

1. Yup.
Early voting's well underway. Polls still show Obama way up.

McCain has a mountain to climb. There's no way he can catch up.

4. That's what i keep thinking

With these huge early voting turnouts, any "surprise" this late in the game is already partially irrelevant. I sure hope you're right!

2. Let's just retire that phrase completely.
Along with 'Rovian' anything and 'Maverick'

3. Yep. The economic news trumps all in terms of external events.
1/3 of voters are expected to vote in early voting.

6. No.
In 2004 the 'surprise' Bin Laden video was the weekend before the election!

7. 2 days left, Then it becomes a November Surprise....
And, with Bush's new emergency powers, we could have a December or January Surprise (although I guess that would technically be a December/January coup d'etat).

11. Nope
Nope... A surprise can go all the up thru NOV 4th. The GOP GOTV usually begins in the LAST 3 days leading up tp the General Election.

Nothings won till all the votes are counted. eom

12. No, We're Not Out of Time
The Bush DUI story came on the last day and IMO had a noticeable effect.

On the other hand, we may be out of "spread" for it to make a difference in the result.

14. The "October Surprise" came early this cycle. It was the economic meltdown.
If the definition of an "October Surprise" is an event that reshapes and dominates the election campaign, one would have to say that this time it was the economic meltdown and it came in September.

17. Certainly not
This is exactly the perfect time for slander and unfounded mudslinging...it can affect the vote and it can't be countered/debunked before the election. On a positive note, it can only really affect the election if people buy it and "big" revelations this close to the vote are always suspicious. Worse, for McCain, he's been flailing around for more than a month slinging crap, Obama almost has to help him because no one believes old John any more.
